Title: Phantom Electrical problem AND a dead Battery
Post by: tazmni1 on April 18, 2007, 10:37:13 AM
Just had a problem last Friday (13 Apr) with a dead battery.  Came out to the Taz after getting a hair cut and with his last dying breath said his battery was dead. No worries as there was an auto parts store just across the street.  As luck would have it they had one battery for a MINI.  I had the transplant surgery completed in about 10 minutes.  Jenn and I took Taz and got a little Crabby with the club on Saturday with a trip to the OBX and Jimmies Buffet.  I?m still full from that.  Sunday Taz sat in the driveway.  Monday he took me to work where, after a couple of hours of sitting in the parking lot, he began to loose his mind, that or he was possessed.  The door locks were popping on and off.  I had to time my entry into the car to get the door open.  Long of the short of it was that Mike, at Sports and Imports could not diagnose the problem because it kept locking up his diagnostic tool.  To his credit, rather waste his time and my money, he did not charge for the attempted diagnoses and sent me to Checkered Flag.  They took two days to track down the problem and we think (hope) it is now fixed ($510 later).  Turns out the problem, if nothing else comes up, is a faulty door actuator.  It shorted out, eventually began to drain the battery and finally caused Taz to loose his mind with the door locks popping on and off. The problem never revealed itself when driving because the power is coming from the alternator vice the battery.  Hope this is some help to other folks that may run across this problem.
