Title: Project ///M
Post by: Johan on May 20, 2007, 09:25:56 PM
The Ulitmate goal of Project ///Ms[/i] is street friendly 250 WHP and 200 WTQ.  I believe this is achieveable without stepping up to a twin charge kit.  I'm going to use this thead to log my progress.

Lets start what I have so far:

A High Density Induction Cold Air Intake with an Alta tube.

A Helix RDR 19% Pulley (going to a 17% to keep IAT's down at high RPM)

0% Crank Pully from E-bay for $30

A beautifull Invidia Exhaust

JCW 380 Injectors

OBX Header mated to the Stock Cat.

This is the Head that I worked with Abacus Racing for several months to get it just right, coupled with a Shrick cam the power is simply AMAZING!  I can say that this is the "Next Step" in power to after the pulley!

Spec Stage 3+ Clutch Kit

UUC Lightened flywheel (12.75 Lbs)

This clutch/flywheel combo is GREAT and exceeded all expectations!  Most High performance Clutches mixed with a lightweight flywheel is un-managable for street use, but awsome on the track.  For me that wasn't an option, so after much re-search I've found this combo and crossed my fingers.  The end result is a reliable HP (can handle up to 420 lbs of tq  ) clutch that maintains street drivability.

The next big mod is going to be an Aftercooler from:

When all is completed I'm thinking of haveing John from Lucky Dog Garage do the final tune for me.  Right now I have MTH but they are un-able to produce a High Performance tune that I need.  Don't get me wrong MTH is a great product and served me well, but at the level my mini is at only a good Dyno Tune will suffice.

I am going to continue to edit this thread as I finish up the Project.

What about a ported S/C from M7?  Will match that head/Cam perfectly.  Better flow means more power.

Hmm...I'm sure I can find someone local to port it for much less then m7 wants...A friend of mine got the one in his lightning done for 2-300.  Thanks!

Post by: Johan on May 23, 2007, 12:56:36 AM
got an e=mail back from LDG:
"my initial reaction is that it's a bit of terd polishing. The
real issue with that supercharger is the way it beats the air up at
high rpms-over 14,000. This happens when a pulley with a greater reduction than 15% is used and is not addressed by porting. Porting does increase airflow, don't get me wrong, but I don't see where it will make much difference in this case."

So airflow is increased but it is so turbulent that not much is gained from it.

Wicked power and torque curves, bet it runs like a raped ape, but that air/fuel looks a bit scary, kinda lean in a couple places.  Is that why your gettin the Lucky Dog tune?

It's going to Gintani, they can emulate the ECU, as far as I know they have the only tuner who can do that for the mini...Which means they can live tune the car while it's on the dyno.  Unlike LDG where they need to do a run, shut the car off, download info, make changes, upload new info and run again.  It takes about 10 minutes just to download or upload a new file.  Gintani can accomplish in 20 minutes what would take LDG 4 hours...Now imagine what Gintani could do in 4 hours    Don't get me wrong...LDG is in my opinion the best tuning solution for the east cost...  I am very excited, 250 doesn't seem that far, but I should be in the 240's for sure!  I'm really hoping to see the TQ break the 200...now that would be interesting --

That sounds awesome!  I had no idea that no one on the East Coast could do real time tuning.  All that TQ though, will you be able to put it down?  If not atleast it will look cool!

There are some decent tuners here. LDG does do good work. It's just that Gintani is IT for ECU emulation. East coast or West.

My mini just arrived at the shop, work shall begin tomorrow --

Title: UPDATE:
Post by: Johan on June 30, 2007, 01:26:22 PM
Well things have been going crazy around here for me this past week...

After my mini arrived at Gintani the clutch slave cylinder went out...no drama but still a PITA.

Got that fixed and then it was off to the dyno...it turned 198HP...I know that's low but remember that I loaded the stock software back in and that brought the Rev limiter back down to 6850.

The double valve springs that we orded wouldn't work with the ultrik valves that I have...So we would of had to change out my vavles and the whole valve train (all because I want to spin higer than 8g)   I didn't really want to hack up my Abacus head because it works really well and exactly what it was designed for. So I made a decision to get a new head built.  Hence some of the drama in the for sale thread.  Everything is on track again, but mini will be in CA for an extra week or so as it's going to take about 10 days to build the head and get the parts in.

While the heads being built were going to CNC port match the cooler to the BIG valved head...Should flow nice and smooth...On the other end will be a new port matched 3" Gintani header and 3" Gintani exhaust...This header was tuned and tested on Randy Webb's race mule.

Then to bring everything together will be the live dyno tune!

So far this has been the best customer service I have ever had with the mini community.  The guys at Gintani are "Top Notch" and know a lot about makeing cars go fast.

Sorry I haven't posted in a while...To be honest I have become a little dissapointed in the mini community.  I've learned maybe more then I should of.  Nothing about the locals here, I'm talking more about the vendors.  I don't have my mini back yet, but that's mainly my doing, I'm SOO glad that I chose to go with Gintani as a Vendor.  I know I'm not perfect, but I do have morals, and to see what some of these guys are doing out there..and all the mini owners that simply don't know any better falling for it makes me completely sick!  To the point where I choose not to visit the forums anymore.

Any way, looks like I'll be moving to CA soon, so it kinda works out for the better.  I'm probably just going to keep my car out there.

I have another business trip coming up and when I get back I'm going to have my old parts shipped here for the guys who want them.

I have another business trip coming up and when I get back I'm going to have my old parts shipped here for the guys who want them.

Care to educate us with some of the more poignant issues you're coming across Johan?
As a side note, I'm sad I won't be driving that beast out here someday!  Please let us know when you're in town next... it would be good to catch up.

Can't post any numbers yet, but we are makeing more power than any other mini with a stock supercharger!!!  Right now we have more HP at 5k RPM than most mini's are at 8k and more TQ at 3K than any other SC mini.

It's going to be a good eye opener once I post the dyno sheets.

Patience young padawan...  and trust they'll be big.  :101: They're sorting out the final tuning basically, wringing every last pony out of her.  I expect only good news when it's all said and done.

The video isn't that clear, for obvious reasons, but I didn't notice the tell tale puff of black smoke at 6500ish that is normal.
That by itself shows a good tune and even better cooler intake charge temps. :023:

Last I heard from him was in March I think... I'm sure he's moved to another base by now.  Hopefully he's back to normal with his leg by now.
