Title: 2008 GWR 500
Post by: MisBehave on January 17, 2008, 06:30:31 AM
Will add links and info to bottom of this first post as they come up.

Update from Randy:   :038:

On Saturday July 26, Seven Cities MINI and HRMINI along with support form neighboring clubs in North Carolina, DC and Pennsylvania will be hosting another attempt at the Guinness World Book Record of “most” number MINIs / Minis in a parade. Our official Guinness claim number is 208356. This year, to raise the bar so our fellow MINI enthusiast from across the pond can't take it from us,   we are going for 500 cars!!!!  Last June C7M, HRMINI, DC METRO and members for other surrounding clubs set the record at 273, which is an official Guinness World record.    England attempted to take in back last August but missed by merely 3 cars.  It is time to show some American pride and break our own world record and keep it forever in the USA.   This year will be hosting a whole day event starting a 9 A.M. and going to Midnight. The event will be held in Lanexa VA at the Rockahock Campgrounds, (http://www.rockahock.com) Parade will start at 2 P.M. with the entire day filled with:

- Vendors

- Car shows

- Clinics

- Competitions

- Rock and roll bands

- Food

- and Children Events.

We have a deal with the Ramada Inn at 6493 Richmond Road (757) 565-1111 in Williamsburg. It is the closest to Rockahock(14.6 mi). We have a special rates at $49 a night and will be held until June 26. So make your reservations now. Of course you could always camp at Rockahock or reserve a cabin!!!!!

More information will be coming soon. We will have a link on our web site for pre- registration soon. Hope to see you in July.

It looks like it's not to far from the pottery.  Sounds like an overnighter.    :icon_idea: Hey maybe we can get Sean to do another picnic for us like the dragon  :023:

I would prefer an overnighter as opposed to driving back home 2x. So, anyone familiar w/accommodations over that way?  :100: Shall we start another thread? Thanks!

I saw on the website they have cabins.  We'll have to check it out after the Scavenger Hunt.

Hey Gang,

Rockahock Campgrounds are approximately 45 min from Norfolk.  You take exit 231A off I-64.  Then it is another 9 miles into the country.  In fact the "Italian Job" Scavenger hunt/rally will end up there on Feb 16.  So anyone going will see how cool this place is.  In talking with Sean and Terry, the goal is to make this event on the scale of MOTD with out all the cost involved with MOTD.  We had a lot of lessons learned last year from GWR-300 and restrooms, food, fun and no dust where at the top of the list.  We also have figured out how to keep the parade on the grounds so now we can use that money for a couple rock and roll bands to entertain us.  Unless I can get Terry and Sean in a kilt. :icon_lol:  Rockahock has a couple cabins and I think eight or nine Yurts. Of  course for the adventureous type they have plenty of camping.  We will be going to a couple hotels in the area to also get a weekend deal in support of the event.  Will be passing that info on to Wendy and Terry when we get it.  Until then hope to see you guys on Feb 16 for some major fun.

Randy

Maybe tent shopping is in order.  Haven't roughed it since the 80's.  A sleepover sounds fun. :icon_lol:

Could have a geocaching event  too!

I nominate Jeff as geo leader. :023:

I won't be making the scavenger hunt so any info would be great. I'd like to make reservations early given the # of anticipated ppl you know? I have since emailed the camp site with add'l questions about cabins vs cottages vs yurts and the good ole 'bring your own' tent sites. I will let yall know what I come to find once they respond.

Wendy, I haven't camped myself in ages either-the last time we tried to; an unexpected STORM came and hit us in OBX and we wound up in a cabin instead.  :091: That was an absolute HOOT (NOT)

I'm really looking forward to the GWR!  Randy has some really great ideas for car shows, kid things, timed events...... tire changing, not autocrossing.... and being able to have the entire parade route on site will be fantastic.

I do have a few comments.......

Quote
Hey maybe we can get Sean to do another picnic for us like the dragon .
I am way cool with this, I'm planning on camping out for the weekend so a cook out on Saturday can be really easy to do!

Quote
I saw on the website they have cabins.

I'm into a cabin or camping in the LandCruiser or in a tent..... weather should still be nice... not 90 degrees at night!

Quote
Unless I can get Terry and Sean in a kilt.

No.

Looking forward to a busy, yet managable MINI season!   :023:

I'm all for kilts, but I really would not want to see two men sharing one kilt.     :016:

Tough call... I don't mind camping as long as it gets cool at night.  I can't stand sleeping when it's hot.  I'll see what Deb's up for... if she doesn't want to overnight it, I might camp with ya'll with Franklin, pending weather... otherwise, a cabin sounds decent too, or hotel..whatever.

As far as kilt wearing... well..that's one way to stay cool I suppose.  :038:
We'll be there regardless... especially if Sean's cooking.

Ok well here is what I've come to find regarding camping at Rockahock:

There is no tent camping in general unless you want to rent an RV site and pitch your own tent on it. The only time tent camping is permitted on their fields is if a festival is going on.

There are 4 cabins (cottage is the same thing); each has 2 bedrooms (1 queen bed/ one set of twins) full kitchen/bath.
YURTS (there are 9 of them): get this--is one big room-looks like what I thought a cabin would be-igloo shaped; anyway-it has electrical outlets and a/c; you still bring your own sleeping bag/air mattress or whatever you are sleeping on and there is no plumbing.

From what I understand the weekend before and after ours are already booked because festivals are going on. SO for those staying the night I would suggest book now there or get your hotel/motel set up.

Is the event on Saturday only? I was thinking overnighter at first, but now I am reconsidering....just thinking.

Well this looks like something that will shorten the ride for our friends up north.  :114:

And I for one am very pleased to see it's on "This Side of the Water".  :038:

Not that there's anything wrong with the Dark Side....eehemm,,.. I mean The Beach Side.  :057:

Did I really type that out loud?   :075:

Date for GWR will change.  I'll post the new date later after I call Randy back.  Looking so far like end of July or beginning of August. I'll put back on the calendar when it is set.

Sounds like a recipe for failure if the dates keep adjusting....  people far away need as far of a lead time as possible to plan.  Maybe June 2009?   :023:

I hear ya Ben, and I thought the same thing, but Randy said MINIUSA is a pretty big sponsor and they didn't want the date to coinside with MTTS 08.   I think the most uptodate rumor is July 26th.

Title: Re: 2008 GWR 500

Here I go again with my .02 cents.

Wouldn't it make more sense to time it as close as possible with MTTS 08 to get that much more participation? Then some of the folks from way out there could also be a part of the event that they otherwise wouldn't dream of traveling this far for, and make that 500MINI/Mini goal alot more likely????

Pardon me if that makes any sense, but hey....... :023:

From Randy at C7M:

"We are planning a trip to Rockahock this Sunday to plan the event.  Everyone is welcome to come along if they wish.  We will be meeting at the Starbucks in/near the Bass Pro Shop in Hampton (never been) at 10:00 on Sunday.  We will the leave as a group to Rockahock.  Spend an hour planning then go some where for lunch on the way back."

Sounds like a fun little trip.  Have to see how many chores we can knock off the list before Sunday first.  :icon_razz:

Saw this on MINI2.  The folks in the UK are trying again

Mile of Mini's - Record Attempt in aid of The Italian Job (Sunday 11th May)

Hi everyone

The Italian Job organisers are arranging a record attempt at a 'Mile of Mini's'. It is in aid of raising money for KidsOut, this years supported charity, and they need as many Mini's/MINI's as possible - at least 300

The attempt will take place at 6.00pm on Sunday May 11th in Portsmouth, after the Italian Job event at Gunwharf Quays and will be starting from Southsea Common on a section of closed highway, thanks to the assistance of Portsmouth City Council and Gunwharf Quays Management. There is an entry fee of £10 which goes to the charity - if you would like to take part, you can find out more information by going to Italian Job - childrens charity fundraising or by completing the attached form and returning it to the organisers office

Please tell anyone and everyone that you know owns a Mini, old or new, and help us beat the record and raise lots of money

While we were having breakfast in Robbinsville this morning, one of the the guys from DC MINI asked me for an update on the GWR event. I told him that I wasn't 100% sure of a date. Has anything been finalized?

He also suggested that we post it on NAM as soon as possible if we want to get their club to make a run down for the event.

Though Im new I personally have never seen such dis-organization for just 1 event. Yes its BIG and would take some time to plan but to me it sounds like there may be to many chiefs trying to do 1 thing. Putting out wrong info and changing dates over and over is the recipe for DISASTER.

They will never be able to get the full effect of what they want to happen with this kind of so called leadership for such a LARGE and important get together. I mean you will have people coming to this from all over the place if they can get the right info given to them. I will be there regardless but I feel bad for the people that actually had to plan to be able to do this with everyone. I know its no one here thats at fault but it really looks bad on 7 cities when something like this happens..

Just my 2 cents

Bill

I agree Bill.  If I were planning this event, I'd make it for 2009 and be done with it.  Right now we have no sense of what's going on with the event and with the date change, have a hard time trusting the new date.  I've heard lots of rumors, and nothing solid whatsoever.

Yep its down and the message says

Sorry, but this board is currently unavailable. Please try again later.

That message can be changed to let people know whats up and why its down unless the Admin doesnt even know its down and if thats the case then I wont even say. Saying I run/develop/Admin many sites its not that hard to change that message. The site is running off FREE software called PHPBB which is open source.

On another note the GWR can still be pulled off this year if the date that its at now will stick and not be changed again and that DATE is set in stone by whoever is in charge of it.

Hello.
There have been several dates and time changes for this years Guinness World Record. First of all many apologies for the confusing messages. AS it stands now GWR will happen and it will take place at Rockahock campgrounds, Lanexa Va., on 26 July 2008.
C7M will be having a meeting this week to get the ball rolling.  first line of business will be working on getting the new web site up and running..We have had a major problem with spammers on the current site. the new will have better filters installed.
even with the switched dates and miscommunications, we have more time now to get the correct word out
In the next two months we will be asking all mini and MINI owners for help in getting the word out and volunteers for this  historic, fun and worthwhile event.

Happy Motoring

Cool glad to get some word about things....I would suggest that you switch your board to Vbulletin you can find it here and its the best on the market for forums...   www.vbulletin.com

The license will cost alittle money but the features are unreal. Its the software NAM is running on and the newest stable update has the ability to even make actual individual profiles for members like a MySpace profile of sorts. Its money well spent and your spammer trouble will go bye bye also.

Don't think that I personally can attend the GWR, but I'm more than willing to let a trustworthy person drive my Mini, so at least the car can be in the run.  I'll either have just gotten home late Friday the 25th or will be traveling home on the 26th from Maine.  I'll be with family and I can't see the kids sitting in a car for a FUN -run knowing that when they leave VA - they are driving back down to West Palm Beach, FL.  I know that I'll be missing out on an exciting day, but I get to make memories with family :038:

Hello everyone!  I've spoke with Mike over at C7M and am now administering their boards to help rid them of the spammer problem.  So far I've deleted about 200 spammer accounts and have another 5 or 6 HUNDRED to go!  :icon_eek:   I am also helping them to promote the GWR event.  I'm VERY inexperienced at this sort of thing but I think I'm off to a good start.  I've been posting on every Mini/MINI related board that I can find and just a few minutes ago I fired off an email about the event to Don over at MotoringFile.com and he has promised to put it up on their site.  :icon_mrgreen:

In short, things are looking up for this event.  If any of you have any ideas as to how to improve it or add a fun twist to it, I would love to hear them!

We stopped by Rockahock today just to check the place out. Regina wants to take the motorhome up there next week once the kids get out of school. We also thought it would be nice to have the motorhome there for the GWR event. Once we finally found the place (no signs anywhere!) we pulled into the campground road. There was a EZ up just past the railroad tracks. As we pulled up, a guy walks over to the car and says "20 bucks a person". We told him we just wanted to drive through a look around and that we wanted to come up there in a few weeks and be back in July. Well, it seems that when there's a "festival" you can't get in there without paying their cover charge. PERIOD! There was a biker fest at the campground this weekend.

So I'm wondering if they plan on charging the $20 charge for our event? And at this point, I'm pretty hesitant on stepping foot back at the place! :091:

Hey, I love flyers, and if some can be passed my way, I can pass them on. There are a few MINIs on camp, and I think a flyer under the wiper is in order. I am planning on being there, Keyword though is planning. I want to be part of one world record, it would x off a thing to do on my things to do list. Is there a list of planned events out yet that is current? Also, one more thing, anyone want to take a stab at the how many folks in the 18 to 30 age group will be attending. May be interested in getting a "Booth Space". Thanks.

Hey Warped..... what was the outcome of the GWR Meeting?  Who went, what happened, what's planned?

Overall....... what's the dilly yo?    :102:

I don't know how I missed this post.  Sorry for the delay Sean.  :icon_redface:

People who attended:

Mike & his girlfriend (sorry, can't remember her name..)
Me
Erika
T.J.
Gary Cooper
Harry G.

What went on:
The meeting was called to order.

Erika was nominated to be Quartermaster.  All agreed and she is now C7M Quartermaster.   Congrats Erika!

I was nominated to be Sponsorship Coordinator/Public Relations Officer.  All agreed and I am now filling that slot.  :118:

Mike proposed that we no longer charge dues. We all agreed and now C7M will no longer charge dues to members.

Regarding the GWR500...

We all agreed that we would like to have Barry Stiffler do the event stickers again this year since he did such a great job on last year's design.  We don't have a final design yet but all agreed that last year's would be fine for this year but with updated date and location.

Mike signed the contract with the Ramada Inn in Williamsburg securing 50 rooms at $49/night through July 21, 2008.  If you register before 7/21/08, you are guaranteed that rate.  That would be good for local members who might partake of the beer truck's wares that will be at the event.

Rockahock will NOT charge any sort of admission fee for our event!  What Maacodale mentioned was setup by the motorcyclist group who were having their event at the time.

Julia from poochstyle.com will be in attendance and has generously offered a gift certificate for raffle.

Any vendor who donates an item for raffle or door prizes will get their name on the T-shirt.  Position/size not guaranteed.

We will sell bigger/better ad locations on the T-shirts, such as center-top rear or left breast for donations.

Sadly, our local dealership has cut their sponsorship donation significantly.  :icon_frown:  Mike is checking with out-lying dealerships to (potentially) gain more sponsorships.

I am in talks with DDM Works and outmotoring.com about sponsorship.  I'm still awaiting responses from about 1938659815 other vendors.

Mark from NAM will help us with ads and such on NAM.

We discussed the tragedies of the tornado damage, fires and such locally and the effect of fuel costs on the Foodbank of Eastern VA and agreed that we will ask all attendees to bring one non-perishable food item for donation to them.  I will be contacting them regarding this.

I am going to contact the Navy regarding sponsorship.  Mike will contact the SEAL teams about having a display there.

We discussed a fishing tournament on the shores of the Chickahominy River and the legalities of such things as fishing licenses and so forth.  I still need to get more info on that.

I will contact Abacus Racing regarding sponsorship.

I've been nagging other clubs about attending. :)

We will charge for registration for the event.  The cost will probably be between $5 and $10 but will include an event sticker and a window cling like last year's.  The proceeds will go to the Naval Special Warfare Foundation, of course.

Erika will contact t-shirt vendors.

We will not charge vendors to setup at the event.  We still don't have an answer as to whether Rockahock will charge them or not.

I will contact radio stations about promoting the event.

Whew...  If any of you have any suggestions as to how to make the event even better, I'm all ears!   :icon_mrgreen:

Thanks for the heads up Jeff.  Remember to post the flyers ASAP for us to print and pass out.  Time's a ticking and we see a lot more MINIs on the road and parking lot this year than last so there has been more opportunity to spread the local news, but have had no news to give.  Too bad there wasn't any to send to the dragon.  :icon_frown:

Not to sure if we're going to make this one, but still want to pass the word around when we're out and about.  :023:

Hey Jeff, or Mike, which Ramada Inn in Billsburg? There are at least two... do you have a phone number and/or reservation code?

Thanks!

Had it posted twice, just want to make sure everything is a a GO.   Not much talk about it at C7's boards and so I was just kind of waiting to make sure this was a not changing date before posting it again.    This event will have and has had  people around the States'  planning vacations or try to rearrange them because of past dates.  Do not want HRMINI to lead them astray until it's "Officially Official"

Hehee... Billsburg.  I love it! :)  It's the one at 6493 Richmond Rd in Williamsburg.  Here is a link to the google map of it.

It's very near the Williamsburg Outlet Mall if not directly across the street from it. :)  As to reservation codes, all you need to do is tell them that you're with the Mini group for the GWR event.  If you have any problems, ask to speak to Nick.  He is our contact there.

Okay, I made a reservation. They didn't have a record of the special rate, but Nick wasn't in yet.

I'm also going to look around for a more pet-friendly hotel in the area. We'll prolly go with that, since it'll cost us a lot more to board them overnight than it will to pay a little more for a hotel.

Yes, it's pet-friendly. And their rates are pretty reasonable. Nothing like $50/night with the group deal, but not too bad. I think the cheapest rate was around $118/night... they offer AAA rates and a whole host of other deals. I looked online and called the 800 number; got a better deal by booking online.

When I stopped by Rockahock a month or so ago, they wanted 20 bucks just to ride through, due to a "bikerfest" at the campground. I had heard the GWR would NOT have an entry fee, now theres a $5/person or $15/car fee. Is that for the campground or for the clubs? Not having a good feeling.........

Title: Re: 2008 GWR 500
Post by: MisBehave on July 09, 2008, 07:44:52 AM
Looks like the cover is to go towards the Naval Special Warfare Foundation.

Details on NAM:

1: The charge for the event is $5.00 per person. Children 6 and under are free. The max charge is $15.00 per car full of people. Essentially, buy 3, get 1 free. This is an all-day pass. You may leave the grounds and return as often as you would like. Just show your number to get back in.

I would like to remind everyone that all proceeds from the event will be donated to the Naval Special Warfare Foundation in support of the families of fallen Navy SEALs and Underwater Demolition Team (UDT) members.

Post by: maacodale on July 09, 2008, 09:02:54 AM
If the proceeds are going to our cause, I'm good with that. If we're just a cash cow for someone else, I wouldn't be happy. I just wonder if we'll have any casual observers with an entry fee. Shoot, I'd donate more than fifteen buck on my own anyway!

Title: Re: 2008 GWR 500
Post by: Warped on July 09, 2008, 04:25:38 PM
There are likely to be a lot of casual observers.  I wanted to keep the price VERY reasonable so that people would come to the event even if they don't have a Mini.

The South Beach Bums will start playing at 10am and stop at 1:30ish for the event.  While the event is going on, the second band Gatorhead (aka Rockaholics) will start playing after the parade event at (I think) around 3pm.

Hi Angela,

There will be food vendors there as well as the Fox Hunter Grill.  There will also be a beer vendor too but, if you are going to drive in the parade, you need to refrain from drinking until after the parade.

I posted in the first few posts that I made that there are going to be food and beer vendors.  Rockahock also has their own bar on-site as well as the Fox Hunter Grill.

Did you mean Mini product vendors?  :017:  It just occurred to me that that might be what you meant. :)  Pooch Style will be there as will Custom Graphics.

As I type this I'm sitting in a hotel in Sheboygan, Wisconsin (woohoo what a happening place...NOT!) We set up the test drive area for the Chicago MTTS event,  and run a bunch of new MINI's through the course. Anyway, I was talking to a couple of the MINI staff guys and they know about the event and they were interested in the out come as well. I'll make sure I let them know.

So sorry to hear that the group didn't make the record.  I know hard work was put into this event so I'm glad it sounds like that was put aside and a good time was had by all.   :023:

I tried up until about 12:15 to make it out. :088:  At that point I knew I might not have made the 2:00 parade and wasn't sure about a cut off time.

So no fun, no gathering and meeting new Mini owners, no t-shirt, no sticker, no fond memories to remember, no nothing for me.  :088:  Well, Warped (Jeff) would've been proud.  I had a clean and waxed Mini just in case.  I even had a welding helmet in the boot because he said I'd need it to view his car with all the shine it was generating. :icon_lol:  I was hoping he'd be working the gate, I planned on having it handy to put on really fast and drive right up to take a look at his shine.   :023: So how shiney was it?  :102:

Hope to see lots of pictures posted of everyone having an excellent time!!! :023:

We had a blast!  It was hot as hot could be but still had a great time.  And Chester really enjoyed leading the parade!  Too bad we didn't get enough MINI's / Mini's to break the record.  Who holds the current record?  A little birdy told me that because we stopped the attempt didn't count anyway.  Is that true?

How much money was raised for the charity?

Neal & I are really excited to be the "Road Kill Pick Up Champions"!!!  That was sooooo fun!!  We laughed so hard.  What a great game.  You have to keep that in the line up for next year. :023:

Yes, the stoppage would have voided the record if we had had enough Minis.   Thank you Angela, Lelane, Neal, Mike and everyone else who pitched in to help.  I was having a helluva time keeping my head on straight up there.  Tug threw a check engine light on the way up and it totally freaked me out!

Congrats to Angela and Neal for winning the Roadkill Roundup.  From what I could see and hear of it from my perch at the table, it looked like great fun!  :110:  I think Randy borrowed the idea from a Harley group or something.  It is usually done with motorcycles.  I fully intend to implement that into other events in the future.  I'd like to add that whatever critter you scoop up has to be whipped into a soccer net on the sideline though!  We didn't have the room or the waivers for the Blind Autocross but I still think that that would be great fun as well.   If any of you have an idea for a sub-event similar to the Roadkill Roundup that you think would be fun, please do share!

I was told that the British hold the current record with 311 Minis.  There has been mention here and there about having it at MOTD2009 but I'm not sure how the logistics of that would work.  Personally, I'd like to keep it local.  There is already a LOT going on at the Dragon as it is.  We would also need police assistance for traffic control etc etc.

Well I wonder if any of the games played or that you wanted to implement would work at the September picnic?   Especially for those that couldnt make it this past weekend or left earlier than planned...? whatcha think?

I don't see why not Trish.  :icon_mrgreen:  There just needs to be enough room to do them safely.

Bill suggested the Dragon too...as we were sitting in the trailer park...  It could work.  With the right planning I'm sure the police would help, especially since it supports a charity they can't argue with.

I did have a good time visiting with everyone. The best was the roadkill event. I was laughing so hard I could hardly get them in the car.

Hey Roy check out Tom9Black's pictures. He has some of Mater! The Roadkill winning mini.

but it is a small art' in the back so I doubt they posted it ... I don't see it on a quick look.

Highlights

"International Mini Meeting Breaks Guiness Book Record

This past May 9 - 12, the International Mini Meeting took place in Lelystad, Netherlands.  Over 2500 classic and new Mini drivers with 1750 minis from 20 countries attended...

The most important activity...was definitely the P&O Ferries Mini Guiness World record attempt of longest parade of Minis.  The previous official record was set in June 2007 in the USA with 237 Minis. ... So in the end it was 886 classic and new Minis that started the parade at 11:00.  The notary present declared that we did comply with all the rules stated by Guiness.  So 886 is the new record to beat!"

As long as we're talkin' 'bout it.  The same issue covered MOTD ... they said 350 cars were registered.  Even given that cars show up that aren't registered it sounds like MOTD would have about 1/2 what one would need to chase this record now....  :102:

Parade..Guiness Record.... either way 1750 cars... That's one HECK of a MiNi get together  :103:

From everything I've been told, they need more than just a notary and they violated the rules based on what I saw in the video of their attempt.  They were more than 2 car lengths apart and they were supposed to have 3 prominent neutral citizens counting the cars rather than a notary.  I won't believe it until I see it published by Guinness.

Was the run from 2007 ever published by Guiness?  Seems like the first run is still the benchmark that folks are using.  BTW, what was the final count this year?

The MC2 article has a typo; the June 2007 record was set with 273, not 237.

The Netherlands attempt has already been disqualified by Guinness.

115 is the final count for our most recent attempt.

I'm trying to find out from GWR what the deadline date is for submission into the next printing--we will want to schedule the next attempt as close to the deadline date as possible so that there isn't a chance for another group to break the record.

Here's what I mean:

Last year the attempt was in June.  Let's say the cutoff date is May 31st.  By having the event in June, we opened up the possibility of another group breaking the record by May 31st 2008.  We achieved the record but if deadline date is May and someone else (even ourselves) breaks the record, THAT group would be printed in the book and we wouldn't receive printed recognition of the achievement.

The fee to submit paperwork to GWR for "consideration" is $550!

two ways to look at this

they had how many show up and try?  Versus .....

sorry...I discussed this with Randy many times....

Anyone who wants my certificate from participation in the longest chain of people holding hands under water on SCUBA - certified by Guiness -  let me know.  It's never drawn much attention on E-Bay

sorry I mentioned it..the current # ...but some one asked.

I go to car shows with more participation than this.....

see ya

Capt BJ,

I'm not discounting the Dutch's effort at all. I'm certain that they had a hard time getting 868 Minis all together in one place.  What I will discount is that they are a country among other countries where Minis are almost as common as Fords are here.

Since I began helping with this event, every post I've made about it had at least one person say, "The Dutch set the record at 868!! We'll never break that!"  and all along I've said that their record has not been proven to be an official record yet.  The article in MC2 had one little factiod that none of the other articles I could find about the event online did and that was that they used a notary as an official.  A notary is not a prominent citizen by Guinness's definition.  Have you seen the video of the Dutch attempt?  I have and the cars are way more than 2 car lengths apart.  I think that the whole fracas about the Dutch is part of why we didn't see as much participation this year.

Why would you even mention car shows with more participation?  A car show has absolutely nothing in common with gathering hundreds of cars of the same make and running them in a parade for 2+ miles less than 2 car lengths apart.  :icon_rolleyes:    It's pretty damn easy to pop back up after so much time away from this board and throw ice water on our efforts when you hold the record for holding hands underwater, isn't it?  :icon_rolleyes:

I'm guessing the real question is...who has to sell their MINI to pay for all the bills?  :icon_cry:
