Hello all,
Sorry it has been so long since I have posted but I have been really swamped with work and travel.  I would like to announce the 2008 MINIs at the 25th Annual Pungo Strawberry Festival Parade sign up list.   

Pre Parade staging at Sonic Drive In.  Post Parade lunch at Malibu Macs after the parade for lunch.  Both restuarants are located in the Red Mill Commons Shopping Centeron Nimmo Parkway in Virginia Beach.

We only have 10 spots so sign up quickly!  Reply to this post to claim your spot.

Parade participants:   You can show up at Sonic as early as you would like, but we will depart the drive in to the parade staging area at 9:00 AM.  If anyone has any questions shoot me an email or PM.  - larry

Thanks for the update.  I take it the Sonic you are referring to is the one at 1137 Nimmo Parkway.

Hey Larry, are we still not allowed to through candy?  Or have they changed their minds on this?  Andria would love to toss candy from the car.

Yes, that is the one.  There is also a map of Red Mill Commons at www.redmillcommons.net.  On that map you can see the layout of the shopping center where the Sonic is located as well as the post parade lunch at Malibu Macs.

Sorry, it looks like we and the kids had too much fun doing this in past parades.  Actually the VB Police were the ones were who told the parade organizers not to allow the tossing of candy.  I have been going to the parade years before HRMINI starting participating and there were several units that tossed candy and other things before.  SO we cannot throw candy or beads or anything.   :076:

Ok HRMINI is unit # 45 in the 25th Pungo Strawberry Festival Parade.  There are 70 or so units in the parade so that puts us roughly 3/4 of the way back in the line up.  Since this is a Strawberry Festival and it is memorial day weekend anything with strawberries and patriotic are the uniform of the day.  Shine those MINIs and do what you want to stay with the theme.  The weather is supposed to be beautiful!  Sunny and 71 degrees.

Recap

Pre parade meet up at Sonic Drive In at Redmill Commons 1137 Nimmo Parkway in Virginia Beach. Time: Dawn till 8:45 AM.  Save room for lunch at Malibu Macs.

Line up MINIs in parade formation in Walmart Parking Lot:  Time:  8:45 AM

Depart Walmart parking lot for parade staging grounds:  Time:  9 AM sharp

Arrive Parade Staging area:  Time 9:10 AM

Find our staging area:  Time 9:15 AM

Try to get to our staging area and stay in parade formation:  Time 9:15 to 9:30 AM

Hurry up and wait:  Time 9:30 AM to ............parade starts at 10:00 AM to................... approximately 10:30 AM when our unit will actually start moving down the parade route.  Bring water, hats, sunscreen, and folding chairs.

Progress through parade route:  Approx 10:30 - 11:00 AM

Transit out of festival area and back to Malibu Macs in Redmill Commons:  Approx 11:00 to 11:30 depending on traffic on the exit route. 

Malibu Macs for lunch:  11:30 till .............................................


Once we leave the parade route and festival there is a predefined exit route that will take back of Pungo into the Redmill Commons area.  Because there are stops signs and traffic along that route we all may not stay in together in parade formation back to Malibu Macs.  I will be handing out some maps to help anyone not familiar with the area.  I recommend everyone bring FRS radios to stay in touch en route from the parade.  7/21 is our standard MINI channel if I remember correctly.

That's interesting to hear considering the one year we threw beads and candy, some VB cops came up to our car asking for beads for their kids.  :102: it was fun while it lasted..........

We now have an open spot in the parade.  Could the person who PM'd me about coming to hang out for Sonic, parade, then lunch please contact me if they would like to  actually be in the parade.  I deleted all my messages and can't recall your name.  - larry

Okay Jeff don't give up your spot.  We need somebody to take over ours.  The MINI is down for the count due to faulty struts. Yes that is struts not strut.  We won't be able to make it so if anyone can fill the opening it would be so greatly appreciated.  I'm so sorry Larry  :icon_frown:

We really missed ya!  I was going to post pics in the photo section, however; my photographer, a.k.a the prince, took about 4 pics! Not enough to get the real feel of the parade as I'm sure Neal and Bob got. Can't wait to see  :023:

Yes, thanks to everyone who came out.  4 years running HRMINI has been a highlight of the parade.  I will never forget the Line Dancing Red Hatters though.  Looking forward to next year.  - larry

Myself and the wife were in the area dropping my daughter off at work at the QUIZNOS there in Redmill. I saw all the Minis out in front of Malibu Macs and began circling around the cars in my Mini. We were admiring all the different themes some of you had going on. After about the 3rd or 4th circle I looked at the door of Malibu Macs and there was a Man watching me like a HAWK as if I was getting ready to break out a wrench and start taking parts or something.....LOL

I thought he was about to bust out the door and like try to tackle my car or something....LOL

Maybe we can finally all meet each other sometime or another. Funny thing is wife asked me why didnt I volunteer to be in the parade and I told her that I didnt know she would be off work.

The cars really looked nice and were so shiny it was unreal..

I had a quick conversation with Little People at a stop light on General Booth, after we left Malibu Mac's.  Sorry that you didn't join in the parade, we had a great time. Hope you can make it next year.

Don't worry about the parking lot security troll. They won't attack MINI's.

LOL......The guy in the Brown shirt in the back left is who security for the day I guess. He is who was at the front door when we were doing the circles.

Great photos, gang!  I dig the storyline layout as well.  I had a really good time.  Who can't enjoy being in a parade?  Bernie Mac's was cool, too.  I have never been out to the Pungo area, and I'm adding that place to my choice of stops.   :023:
