Oh bummer!!!  That is the weekend of the Coventry Commonwealth Games and Neal will out of town competing in this and I have to work!  Dang it!!!  I've always wanted to go to a Renaissance Festival.  :022:

What about the Va Beach people meeting up somewhere in VB.  Maybe the Starbucks at Hilltop of La Promenade on Laskin Rd?

Saturday would be awesome. I showed this to my better half and she was wanting to go since she heard about it in February. Pooling in with a group of MINIs would just make the event that much more fun. Count us in.

Just had a thought. I think Sean set up a meeting point at the York Town WalMart when the Colonial Parkway was used for a Ferry Run. This could maybe used again as it's large enough and easy to find, as well as directly off I64 for those coming across the water.

Added you to the interest list John. I have no problem in switching my ice cream desire for a big ole turkey leg.  :icon_lol:

I will check the maps.  I can only think of one or two back roads until you get past the Gloucester courthouse area.  That's when the options really pick up.  The only other option is to head up through Williamsburg, go through West Point, and then go back downward to Gloucester.  This will take longer, but there are more back road options.

Seeing as how I haven't been to this event before, I'm not sure what kind of crowd will gather. If ice cream on the way is planned, I'm geussing no one intends to be there when the gate opens.

Does leaving an ice cream parlor around noon seem reasonable, or perhaps that maybe too early? Any suggestions?

I for one know very little about this event, but would like to get in a reasonable days activities. Mind you, I don't mean the full 10 to 6.

I'll check our social calendar, but it sounds like fun to Ben and me!  I haven't seen many of you in a long time, sorry to say.

I just thought about something.  The festival itself is 10-5.  However, we don't necessarily have to be there when it starts.  As such, there are options for times and the route taken.  I did suggest the long route through West Point; this will allow for more back roads.  I was supposed to do the Urbanna trip in June (sorry on that one).  It's about 20 miles north of Gloucester.  There are antique shops at both locations.   :080:

From there will take Jumping Jack's scenic route to the festival.  We can hit the ice cream shop on the way home to top off the afternoon.  :icon_razz:

Wendy, sadly, I don't think I'll be upto the West Point drive. It's not in my gasoline budget at this time  :022:

Noon is fine if we head up through Gloucester.  If we go through West Point, it will take a bit more time, so I would suggest leaving around 11 a.m.

According to a recent review, Short Lane Ice Cream has some good hours, so late-day stops here is good.

I'm for meeting at noon still and shooting up there through Gloucester.  Maybe take West Point home for those that want more of a drive after stopping at Short Lane. That will give an option for folks to take a long way home.  Gas prices are a little tight right now and between Auto X last weekend, this weekend trip, GWR next weekend it wouldn't hurt for us to cut back where we can or spend it on festival food and trinkets instead.  :icon_lol:

Beware on Route 17 near Gloucester :018: I got to meet a very UNFRIENDLY VA state trooper and I'm shelling out the big bucks to his retirement fund - he clocked me at 71 in a 55 zone - it's cheaper for me to pay the fine then lose a days wages and drive to Glouster on the hopes he doesn't show in court. :018:
Hope you all have a blast - I'll be flying to ME to visit family on the Atlantic - can't go to the ocean here - I have to go where the water is frigid despite being July  :120:.

Okay almost time to go back in time.  Checked out some of the vendors and can't wait to test out the festival food and "trinket" tents.  I think Allison wants Daddy to buy  a  crossbow.  :icon_eek:  Thank goodness a catapult won't fit in the car. 

WOW was it HOT!   Loved seeing you guys today.  Wish it had been 10-20 degrees cooler though.  :icon_razz:

Will have to keep a look out for these Renaissance Festivals in a colder month.  Would have loved to explore more of Main St, Gloucester, but the heat and humidity was draining.  Maybe we can try again in the Fall.  Adam knows of some nice roads through there so I'll volunteer him for leading.  :icon_lol: :icon_lol:

Sorry I missed you guys yesterday.  I got called in to work which meant heading to Norfolk to get equipment and delivering it to NOB.  Left the base to head up to Gloucester and hit the 8 mile backup at the tunnel..... gotta love weekends in Hampton Roads.
On a positive note, I got to East Coast Bikes and got a new saddle (seat) for my bike and even better got to try Cogans Instant Art Bar for some incredible pizza.  I about fell out of the chair when I saw they had my favorite beer on tap too: Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA.  If anyone ever wants to make a Saturday run to Cogans for a pizza count me in!!!!
