Title: Berties makeover Part 2 Post by: MD_IN_UK on June 28, 2008, 10:36:05 AM A whole new phase took place last night, Friday, June 27th. Here's what happened, I'll let the snaps speak for themselves..........

Will someone say a prayer for me,so I can get him done by GWR500 time. :115: Title: Re: Berties makeover Part 2 Post by: MisBehave on June 28, 2008, 11:02:37 AM Oh my gosh John what a awesome color. :038:
I have faith you will have it back together for the GWR. Besides I'm sure the puppy is going through Bertie withdrawals, :icon_lol: When Bertie's all done we'll have to do a Barnes & Noble meet. Don't want to take you away from the project before than. Title: Re: Berties makeover Part 2 Post by: MD_IN_UK on June 28, 2008, 11:06:59 AM Thank you for the color compliment. When I pulled the tape for the stripes, my first thought was "oh man, people are gonna think Shelby?"
Berties not that fast. But I hope he'll look it!!!!! Title: Re: Berties makeover Part 2 Post by: Warped on June 28, 2008, 11:18:20 AM That color is just dead sexy! I can't wait to see him finished! :icon_mrgreen:
Title: Re: Berties makeover Part 2 Post by: BabyBMW on June 28, 2008, 01:34:29 PM I really like that color, You'll have tell us what it is? :039:
Title: Re: Berties makeover Part 2 Post by: MD_IN_UK on June 29, 2008, 11:22:52 AM I had planned on doing a color changing paint job when I first got started. My supplier was willing to give me enough paint to do the car.....once. At $800 a quart, I thought, Damn, that's pretty generous. Then I did my research and found out that if I should need more for any reason, the least I could purchase was a pint, that reads $400 :022:
Yours Truly had to rethink that one. So I chose a color that could be purchased at a decent price, and could be made localy without having to wait days for delivery. Good thing too, as I ran out of paint after my second coat and needed exactly another pint to get it right. Superior Auto Paints came thru with flying colors and helped me to "Get er Done" within a few hours time from start to finish. The color is from the Carizzma color line. It's called Indigo Pearl. My regional rep suggested we tweak the formula a bit, and we did. You should see this in the sun, I'll keep everyone upto date as I progress with the rebuild. Till then........ Title: Re: Berties makeover Part 2 Post by: accentz on June 30, 2008, 11:41:09 AM I was thinking exactly that when I saw the pics. "That color will look fantastic in the sun". GREAY job John.
And I don't want to hear about it taking only a few hours. It takes me all day to shoot a car. [/quote Roy, when I said it took me a few hours to paint, i should also add that I had to wait 45 minutes for Superior to deliver that extra pint of base coat. Even so, that's alotta time for a production painter on any car. I did of course take a wee bit more time on this as it is going to be shown and used occasionally for advertisement purpopes. When you do this stuff for a living, it get's easie:r all the time. When your ready to fix yours, I'll show you what I mean. I'll wear my blindfold when it's time to put on the finish :107: Title: Re: Berties makeover Part 2 Post by: MPETUOS on June 30, 2008, 01:38:06 PM Lookin way HOT.... can't wait to see the final ride!! :066:
Title: Re: Berties makeover Part 2 Post by: accentz on June 30, 2008, 03:14:40 PM I'm just jealous you can get that kind of finish plus get it done that fast. I can get that finish but only after color sanding it.
It's all in knowing what your doing and having the experiance to do it. I could sure use some pointers when it comes to body and paint work. Now if you want to come out to VIR then I could show you a few things. :icon_mrgreen: Title: Re: Berties makeover Part 2 Post by: BigRed33 on July 01, 2008, 02:03:20 AM I know where i am going to do ELVIS! BEAUTIFUL!
Title: Re: Berties makeover Part 2 Post by: MD_IN_UK on July 06, 2008, 11:04:50 AM Alright everybody, I must confess, I wasn't happy with the look, so I sanded him back down and I'm thinking about green.....
(http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g11/MD-IN-UK/Bertiegettingreadyforpaint027.jpg) Of course, I'm just kidding. It's just the next step in a long process of custom paint work. (http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g11/MD-IN-UK/Bertiegettingreadyforpaint034.jpg) This is the look I'm goin for in the stripes....... (http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g11/MD-IN-UK/Bertiegettingreadyforpaint033.jpg) and I thought I'd do my version of a Check Mate here too... (http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g11/MD-IN-UK/Bertiegettingreadyforpaint031.jpg) Hope you like it. Title: Re: Berties makeover Part 2 Post by: BabyBMW on July 06, 2008, 04:06:57 PM Looks really cool to me, John. I don't think I've seen another classic mini like that.
Title: Re: Berties makeover Part 2 Post by: MPETUOS on July 06, 2008, 06:07:03 PM Hey John.... I've got an 88 Land Cruiser that could use some style!!
Bertie's Looking great! When will she be out on the road?!!! Title: Re: Berties makeover Part 2 Post by: MD_IN_UK on July 06, 2008, 08:23:04 PM Thanks guy's. Sean, I wish I could say a date for completion. As it is, I started just after the beginning of April andI'm only at the point of getting some airbrush work done on the quarters and boot Tuesday night. Then re-clearing all those panels I hope on Wed. Then putting the little bugger all back together again when shop time permits. I'm not getting any younger, so staying after hours (especially after a busy day) isn't as easy as it used to be. Point is, if I had this to do during regular hours for a paying customer, it would be done by now. :102:
I'm not holding my breath for this years GWR500. :090: Title: Re: Berties makeover Part 2 Post by: Uber Blu on July 28, 2008, 07:06:53 PM I visited John today to show him Schultze and to get a quote for repairs after the vandalism incident.
He proudly showed me Bertie and the color is GORGEOUS! I really LOVE the checkmate on the sides and on the bonnet stripes. Title: Re: Berties makeover Part 2 Post by: BigRed33 on July 29, 2008, 03:29:36 PM wow.. thats facinating i love it cant wait to get elvis back...
