Please take the time to view the above link.  There's an ad at the beginning.  Bare it and move forward.  If you haven't heard about this information concerning the dating on tires you need to get educated.

Hubby has checked all our tires on all four vehicles, we are within 2 to 3 years old with everything.  I'd like to note that the last two sets of tires purchased came from Sam's Club.  They were purchased and installed within months of the manufactors date.  I believe that's a two thrumbs up for Sam's Club. :023: :023:  As you'll hear in the clip, Sears didn't :018: fair well at all.

I know this really doesn't apply to our Minis, but most of us do have other vehicle types in the driveway that this may apply to.

Check thoses dates!!!

When I was in college, I helped out with a study on this.  If the tire just sits around it is bad.  When you have an older tire on your car, that was actually new when you bought it, it should be alright.  What happens is as the tire just sits there, the rubber breaks down.  But impregnated into the rubber are chemicals that as your tire heats up as you drive, they are released, and help to preserve the rubber and help it last longer.  Heating up your tire and then having it cool is called a heat cycle, and tires are designed for a set amount of heat cycles, though I don't remember how many.

I know this is an old post, but it is very informative.  I also appreciate the extra note about tires sitting vs. being used.  That kinda goes along with the understanding that a driven car is better than one that sits.
