Post by: MiniK9 on April 30, 2010, 02:25:00 PM
Looks like there might be a get together at Quakers in NN soon.  Here is the link to sign up and hopefully get "deals" from them.http://www.quakersteakandlube.com/NewportNews_VA/ (http://www.quakersteakandlube.com/NewportNews_VA/)
So now we need a Day, Date & Time!

Already got a $5 off $25 purchase good through May 30th from Quaker.  So when are we dining?

My parking lot is just across the street and available for some tire kicking and general BS prior to going over for some eats. Just name a date. Keep in mind Wed is Biker Night, Thur and Fri, traffic is unbearable from around 3pm till 6 ish. Hope to see a schedule soon.

I'm good with a Tues or Thurs evening. How about making a run up 17 after dinner to the ice cream place on this side of the Coleman Bridge?

John ... since it's your place we're invading first, it would only be common courtesy for us to allow you to throw some dates out there for us to agree on. Give us a couple so we can reach a group concensus.

Please post a date and time.  I live right around the corner from here.  Great variety of wings available (21 flavors).  Good ribs, too.  And a really killer automotive theme inside (cars and bikes hanging from the ceiling, walls filled with auto collages and signs, etc.).

Tuesday the 11,18,25 of May or Thur 6,13,20,27 of May. I'm pretty well open for any of these dates. Voting on it might take a wee bit longer, but if everyone chimes in quick enough, who knows???

If more would rather go into June, that's okay too. I'd just like to see something done soon, so we can all be HAPPY again.  :112:

Tough choice !  Check out the calendar on their web site. They have a deal on "all you can eat wings" on Tuesdays and a Cruise-in every Saturday. I've never been there, but want to go soon.

Title: Re: Quakers Steaks & Lube
Post by: BIMMINI on May 09, 2010, 07:49:34 AM
Although the Saturday night cruise-in would be fun, it might make for a very crowded restaurant, with sloooow service. For a mid-week the rest of this month, I'm good on May 13, 18 and 25.

Concurrence here. Saturday would be a mob scene. A M-F event would make it more enjoyable.

Come for the steaks, stay for the lube. I'll just have the wings.

Lets do it Tuesday May 18th.  If you really want to be there and can't make that date speak up.  I'll ask to have it put on the calendar in a few days if there are no declines.

For those who may want the shop address;

12823 Jefferson Ave.
NN VA 23608

QS&L is just across the street, if this turn out is all those who have replied so far, there should be plent of room to park at QS&L and save everyone the hassle of crossing the street on foot. Just a thought.

See Ya Tuesday..... :023:

See you all there, and looking forward to it. Perhaps on Monday someone should call in a head count so we can possibly get a big table set up. If no one else wants to do it, I will.

From what I understand this place is as unfriendly as they come concerning making arrangements. Two different people, including our Mistress of ceremony Kathy says they flat won't call you back. I know this first hand as well when i called and the manager was "supposed" to return my call within the hour. That was January. It's been a long hour! Having said that, I am still looking forward to dinner a lot! Hope not to be disappointed.

If there's anyone else thinking of joining us for the dinner please let us know here. I'll "try" to call in a reservation on Monday night based on this head count. Since we're assembling across the street at Stans Collision at 6, I'll make the reservation for 6:45 ish.

They don't take reservations, but according to Monique, 12 of us around 7 tomorrow night should not be a problem. She indicated that we can probably all sit together if we wish. Guess we'll see when we get there.

Uh-oh...

Schultze is ready to be picked up from Atlantic Autowerks...I won't be able to make it to QSL this evening.   :009:

Last patients are scheduled at 530, which means I won't even get out of the office until 630 and then there's the traffic.

We'll figure something out...

Hey Dale, it was good to meet you too. Finally!!!! I did meet Regina a couple years back when she stopped by are table at Carrabas during a Christmas Party. She probably didn't remember, but that's alright.

As far as QS&L go's, let the shop run itself one day during the lunch hour and I'll be happy to sit, eat and chat one on one if Ya want, who knows, we may even be able to teach each other something at the same time.  :023: :023: :023:

Hey John,
Thanks for setting this up. It was a nice diversion during the work week, and "Bertie" was looking stunning, as usual. I'm going to get into QS&L on wing night one of these days, but our backup plan was a great choice. Really nice that we were seated right away and that were all able to sit together  :023:

Dave, you should probably thank BIMINI (Howard) as this was his idea all together. I simply provided a point for all to meet. I did like the way the shop looked with all those MINI's out front.  :038: :038: :038: Too bad it dosen't look that way every day.  :023: :023: :023:

As for Howards absenteeism, I think he's already covered that well enough.

...."according to Monique, 12 of us around 7 tomorrow night should not be a problem".... famous last words

I guess Miss Monique had no business answering the phone and being the spokesmodel for QS&L the other night. I heard from John about the sellout crowd you all encountered. Glad to hear however, that the contingency plan worked out well for all of you, and sorry I missed the party.

We all had a great time and impromtu is our second name so we had no issues.  The Pina Coladas are awesome!

Except perhaps the almost incident in the traffic circle?    :065:     I'm saying Steve is the bad boy and Mike was just following MINI protocol.   That's my story and I sticking to it.

Well, Mike should have gone straight instead of doing round-d-rounds (NASCAR). And we don't live in England. An thats my story. :018:

Title: Re: Quakers Steaks & Lube
Post by: MD_IN_UK on May 24, 2010, 08:46:31 AM
Was that HRMINI protocol? Becuase I didn't know. I saw it from a safe distance and thought that perhaps Mike just wasn't too sure of which parking area we wer'e going to use. As for Steve doing what everybody else does, was that wrong?

My enquiring mind would like to know. Then, maybe I'll be better prepared the next time I encounter a traffic circle and there should be another MINI in it. :100:

Title: Re: Quakers Steaks & Lube
Post by: 2FUN4ME on May 24, 2010, 09:48:54 AM
My understanding of the law of traffic circles is you always go one way in a counterclockwise direction with the people on the circle having priority over those arriving to enter.  There aren't too many in VA, but tons in NJ and DC (one in City Center of Oyster Point I drive regularly).  I am pretty sure I saw Steve go clockwise.

MINI protocal is to go completely around the circle one time - just for the fun of it. Read that in one of those MINI propaganda statements.

I am just messing with you guys.  :055: No harm was done and we all had fun.  I'm not the traffic police... I just put my hands over my eyes for a second!   :103:
