It's been in the works for a while, but we've finally nailed down a time and date for MOSS MINI's MINI Cooper open  house.

August 28, 2010. Doors open at 10 AM. They folks at MOSS MINI will host an open house with tours and some great deals for MINI owners. Moss has been serving the automotive community for over 60 years. They published their first catalog, for MG's in 1962. IN 2008 MOSS Motors opned their new 112,000 square foot East Coast facility to replace the New Jersey location they had long since outgrown. In addition to parts for our favorite cars, they also offer catalogs for Miatas, Mustangs, Jackson Super chargers, Powercard tuning and nearly every make of British vehicle known to man!

I talked to Moss Motors today (8/3) and they plan on having door prizes for us. So if you're feeling lucky, you may have another reason to attend!

Also, they are thinking of providing food for us. We'd need a decent minimum and plenty of advanced notice. I just don't want them to run out of food, because too many people show up or have a bunch left over and end up losing money on that.

So far no work commitments on this Saturday, crossed fingers it stays that way .. very do-able from Raleigh, only about 2 hours .. has this been posted to THMMC site (which is currently down) ..

Any plans for after the Open House? (food?? a drive?? anyone familiar enough with options in the area? too bad the Colonial Downs season will have closed out by then)

We had a couple of discussions on heading up to Bottoms Up pizza in downtown Richmond. There are a few good twisties not too far out of the way. Should be about an hour drive up there. Pretty cool place from what everybody says.

Looks like I can make this run. just let me know where and what time too meet up.

I've just sent out an email to our group of classic Mini owners (Mid Atlantic Minis), in an effort to get some classics to meet there on the 28th. We started working on a plan for a Moss visit last year, which was to take place in September just before their doors opened for business, but it never came to fruition. Hopefully we'll have at least a handful of classics to join in. 

That'll be great! It's taken a good while to get this set up. I just hope the MINI/Mini community will respond!

So far we have four classics from MAM confirmed, and a copule on the fence.

As we get closer, we'll set up a group drive up to Moss. At the moment I'm thinking heading up 460. If nothing else simply because it's straight up to Petersburg and secondly, we haven't done 460 in a good while.

460 is a HUGE speed trap, but is the logical choice for this run up to Moss. I'm in  :023:

Well this event is just about a month away now. 460 has been mentioned, but little else. Any ideas's for a rendevous point and departure time would be very helpful.

Sadly I can't drive two cars at a time. The classic will have to stay home for this trip, as my old behind requires some serious A/C till about the middle of October.  :108:

I am planning on this run, where do we want to meet up? The sears parking lot on Witchduck seems to work pretty good for the south side members.

Okay, Cooper Vineyard is behind us and Moss MINI is on the horizon! I'll have a route figured out this evening hopefully. I'd also vote for an after event dinner up that way. Preferably with a nice drive to the restaurant. Lets think about either Famous Dave's BBQ or maybe Bottom's Up Pizza.

After doing some checking on Google maps we have 3 general options for a route up to Moss Motors. First is up 64 to 295 to 95 to 85. Second is 64 to Williamsburg to Rte 5 through Hopewell to 85 and number 3 is up Rte 460 to 95 to 85. Personally,  I still think460, even with the speed traps, would be the route to take. Mainly because I just despise I64. It shows about 2 1/2 hours from the beach and about an hour and a half from Suffolk. If memory serves me right, they'll open up to us at 10AM. If the Beach/Chesapeake gang can meet up at 7 and the Peninsula guys join in somewhere along 460 for a wheels up at 8AM should work well. I'd suggest the Dairy Queen at 460 & 258 for a meet up point.

Unless we happen to bump into each other along 460, the guys from MAM, driving the classics will meet you all at Moss at around 10.

Bottom's Up is in the city close to the intersection of I-95 and I-64.  You normally park under the highway near Main Street Station.

We can always opt to take Route 10.  It is a bit slower but more scenic.  You can either cut over to U.S. 460 via Route 625 (Hines Road) around Disputanta or take 10 all the way to Hopewell and take Route 36 southward.  If this route is chosen, a good meeting place would be the Smithfield Plaza Shopping Center.

Just found out Alta has the 19MM rear sway bar for 120.00 (christmas in july sale) for anyone that may have considered picking one up at Moss later. . . . .

Dale- Route 5 right into Richmond is a real nice drive. it's a two lane road thru the country with very little traffic.

I agree with that. This past Spring MAM had a classic Mini cruise from Hampton, around Williamsburg and on up to Richmond via Rt5 and it was a great run all the way. Return trip from the Richmond area took us down 10 on the opposite side of the James, which was enjoyable as well.

We actually have a member working on a route now. He stepped up and offered some ideas. I think y'all will like it.

As for route 5, it surely is a nice ride. we did do it one Sunday morning for something. BTW, there are a lot of churches on Rt 5! Trust me, I got behind every singe congregation member!

THis looks like a good time to pick up some goodies that need installation during the future mod party?

OHHHHH YEAHHHHHHH!!!! (Channeling my inner Macho Man Savage) :026:. I can make the event. Got the trade from one of my colleagues and I can get there. No extended lunch needed. Drove by MOSS today after I got the word that I can get there. Can't wait until I see the rest of the HR MINI/Mini crew there :023:. Checked out the catalog and marked a few things to pick up that day.

We probably still have time to order a catalog and start planning purchases,

Also, if we can get them a head count, they "MAY" have lunch provided for us. There would have to be a decent minimum and we'd need to know at least 2 weeks out. I personally think we thank them for the offer, but decline and grab a bite to eat  later. I don't want them either A) running out of food because to many people show up (Though I'd love a BIG turnout) or B) have too much food left over and take a bath on the food.

I agree that lunch would be nice and the lure of free food tends to draw lots of people. I wonder if we will really be wanting to go eat somewhere when it's over?

If it's hot and sunny, some A/C and pizza/beer/bbq sounds like a plan.

Besides, spending money always makes me hungry!
