Well guys, and gals, it seems that i wont be bringing the classic back with me to much of a hassle with the military releasing the car to be imported.   But we are slated to be back in the states in the first 2 weeks of September, we are going to try to get to the FCR, but we will see what happens with shipping Red back....

Nathan, i dont know if this is up your alley but I have been in the IT field for 10 years 9 of which have been with the navy, and the training even after a 4 year stint is awesome, and people offer me jobs all the time and invite me to get out because out hands on training is so good.  Just a thought let me know if your interest or if you have questions.

...here's another idea...how about a tire kicking and BS session with MD-IN-UK (aka: John Santiago) at Stan's Collision & Refinishing Center on Jefferson Avenue. Thay have a good size parking lot at the shop where we could hang out for a while before walking across the street to Quaker Steak & Lube. Any takers?

QS&L is in Hampton Roads now?  SERIOUSLY?????????  AWESOME IDEA!

Teddy, and Maaccodale, I have run a forum before if you would like some help on the administrationb part please let me knowe i am up on italy time so i could make changes to the site while you are sleeping that way there is no down time and if you so desire i can come up with some designs for the main pages as well....  food for thought...

Well Amanda is going to spend the winter in Erie, PA, and i am trying to decide weather to swap out my BFG's to winter tires before the FCR or after.....  sounds like to consensus is after...

Ya'll really have no excuse with the faster slower argument until you are passed by a German postal van on the Autobahn, pretty sure it was a diesel too.  Or getting passed by any car in italy, cause everyone thinks that they are qualifiying for Formula One here...

all I am saying is what is wrong with a little tiny bit of organization...  not saying we have to become registered but just suggesting that we put a tiny fraction of effort into it...
38  Social Side / Hampton Roads / Re: HR MINI SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!! on: April 26, 2010, 10:49:01 AM
another location thought for me is American Indoor Karting...

Thanks for the thought Bimmini...  these things pop in my head and i just spew them out.

After dinner gives us time to drive out from the beach after my class lets out...   what were the temperature like last year?  here in italy, i have yet to have to swap out my summer "Z" rated tires but i know that i will need to sometime in the stats any thoughts?

I have more to say on this, but in a hurry this am so I'll get back after lunch, but I will say for now that HRMINI is a social group and not an organizational club.
No dues and no bylaws, please.  I already deal with that in my two other clubs.  However, monthly meetings... that would be a thought.  That would give us core enthusiasts opportunity to discuss what is worth doing.  I know car meets and shows are all over the area.  Any that relate to the world of MINI would be encouraging.  Instead of just saying "here's a show," some can say "I'm going to this show."  That could encourage other members to go.  Yes, I'm guilty of this myself.  I should be going to more car shows for that matter...

....We should also revisit past events.  Consult with previously active members to find out what struck their fancy for coming out.  The Ferry Run comes to mind.  I'm sure there's lots more.  We could canvas the other club sites to find out what kind of trips are most popular for them, or even ask around when some of us go to Minis on the Dragon.

I have a lot to say about this, The Ferry Run was awesome, even if you left out the dinner part, Amanda and I had a Reall Great time.  We really just need to get people together.  I feel like our current method for inviting people stinks, there is a lack of draw especially when I sign on after a few days and have two pages of stuff to sift thru just to find the events.

Dale you got my attention with this title, but we don't seem to be making an head way, Shawn had a great idea and Wendy followed up by making a FB page but not everyone can make events for it...

I am not saying that we need dues or that we need officers, but some cohesive manner of leadership needs to form, Wendy, I KNOW that this is a social club, but we have been toting that banner for a long time.

JJF has a great point that we try some monthly meetings, if the pub meets are so successful, maybe that could be a good jumping off point....

At any rate, I know that we need a more cohesive manner for organizing the events and dates.  Maybe a Google calender that people can upload into their calendars or something?  The Facebook page has merit but how comprehensive is it?

I think another big factor that has been touched on slightly is that being a military community we have a great deal of turnover.  So a lot of the folks that used to turn out are no longer stationed here, leaving a gap where the coordination effort took place.

The website, is tired!  We have had the same look for 4 years, the same banner pictures rotate, pictures of people who have not been to events or even own minis anymore.  We could seriously dress up the site and gain some interest with web related content.

How about local organizations, CooperTune immediately comes to mind.  We could have an event surrounding classics and have Steve host the thing.  Newport News, is local and i don't think that i have ever seen us involve him.  Sure Checkered Flag wont have anything to do with anyone but I am sure that we can get someone, somewhere to help us out with a big deal....   We had great success with the Guinness Run, an event that could bring attention back to our club here in the local area.

We will be back in the middle of September...  and I will be in port until the middle of November so expect to see us at whatever is going on.

Dale, I havn't been a member too long, but have really enjoyed all the "runs"I've been able to attend. And Kathy, I just  wanted to add that you are absulutly right. We all need to make a good effort to make all newbies feel welcome. I've only been a member since last summer and have always felt welcome at any of our events. So, Thanks Guys. I've always felt like I would be welcome talking w/ any member. I havn't run into any situations that were too auekward(sp). And even if I had felt like it was at the time, I've only ever gotten positive feedback from all of you. Thanks,I enjoy being a part of this spirited, social club..Mike

Something like, "Hello my name is Tim, this is my Mini, Angelo, and we're nucking futz?"  kind of make it a socially awkward thing?  I know that we went to Mini's on a ferry for my first run, and i was a bit apprehensive, with the "Large" group and with the banquet at the Virginia Peanut joint...  we had a nice turn out for our dinner when we were back in the states last year, and met a few folks that we had not met before...

I also think that there are mini owners who are just joyless, they buy the car, the like it but not enough to be social we tried to start the MVM Club here and we got ZERO responce, and yet we have friends that own minis here and were like thats your MINI?  THe Crazy One?  we should start a club...  seriously dude i put a card in you wipper...  WTF?  Oh well our weekends are always busy...  Nevermind bro.

Amanda and I will be huge proponents of long runs, we doubt people will come with us but we have decided after being here in Italy, that there are places with in 5 or 6 hours that we have never seen, and fuel is SO much cheaper there than it is here....  we have estimated that fuel is close to 7 dollars a gallon here...   1.60 Euros a Liter (3 liters in a gallon the exchange rate is 0.75 so we are talking about 6.4 dollars a gallon...)  Crazy Prices.   We cant beleive how close things are what we have never taken advantage of in the states, we stay in our little communities and leave only when forced.
