I have more to say on this, but in a hurry this am so I'll get back after lunch, but I will say for now that HRMINI is a social group and not an organizational club.
No dues and no bylaws, please. I already deal with that in my two other clubs. However, monthly meetings... that would be a thought. That would give us core enthusiasts opportunity to discuss what is worth doing. I know car meets and shows are all over the area. Any that relate to the world of MINI would be encouraging. Instead of just saying "here's a show," some can say "I'm going to this show." That could encourage other members to go. Yes, I'm guilty of this myself. I should be going to more car shows for that matter...
....We should also revisit past events. Consult with previously active members to find out what struck their fancy for coming out. The Ferry Run comes to mind. I'm sure there's lots more. We could canvas the other club sites to find out what kind of trips are most popular for them, or even ask around when some of us go to Minis on the Dragon.
I have a lot to say about this, The Ferry Run was awesome, even if you left out the dinner part, Amanda and I had a Reall Great time. We really just need to get people together. I feel like our current method for inviting people stinks, there is a lack of draw especially when I sign on after a few days and have two pages of stuff to sift thru just to find the events.
Dale you got my attention with this title, but we don't seem to be making an head way, Shawn had a great idea and Wendy followed up by making a FB page but not everyone can make events for it...
I am not saying that we need dues or that we need officers, but some cohesive manner of leadership needs to form, Wendy, I KNOW that this is a social club, but we have been toting that banner for a long time.
JJF has a great point that we try some monthly meetings, if the pub meets are so successful, maybe that could be a good jumping off point....
At any rate, I know that we need a more cohesive manner for organizing the events and dates. Maybe a Google calender that people can upload into their calendars or something? The Facebook page has merit but how comprehensive is it?
I think another big factor that has been touched on slightly is that being a military community we have a great deal of turnover. So a lot of the folks that used to turn out are no longer stationed here, leaving a gap where the coordination effort took place.
The website, is tired! We have had the same look for 4 years, the same banner pictures rotate, pictures of people who have not been to events or even own minis anymore. We could seriously dress up the site and gain some interest with web related content.
How about local organizations,
CooperTune immediately comes to mind. We could have an event surrounding classics and have Steve host the thing. Newport News, is local and i don't think that i have ever seen us involve him. Sure Checkered Flag wont have anything to do with anyone but I am sure that we can get someone, somewhere to help us out with a big deal.... We had great success with the Guinness Run, an event that could bring attention back to our club here in the local area.
We will be back in the middle of September... and I will be in port until the middle of November so expect to see us at whatever is going on.
