On Tuesday April 3rd, Randy and I will meet with Navy Seal Team 2 at Little Creek. The Date we will attempt the record is now JUNE 10th and after some logistic restraints we will not be using the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. This attempt will require all MINI/Mini owners from all the Local Clubs, Se7en Cities, HR and River Cities and beyond but it will be billed as an attempt by the VIRGINIA MINI/Mini OWNERS and it will take the participation of all club members regardless of the specific club to show that we as a community can produce an exciting, Fun event. Not only will it be a Hoot to participate but it will put MINI owners from Virginia in the National Spot light. This event, to raise money for the Families of Fallen Navy Seals, is going to be the best one yet, and with everyones participation we can succeed.

We already have the support of the Virginia Beach Police Dept who will block the proposed route for us. The Folks at Guiness have been contacted and they should be back to me soon. They will require the VIN#of each vehicle entered and the name of the owner. We must have all the MINI/Minis in continuous parade, no more than 1 car length apart and drive for a MINIMUM of 2 continous miles without break. Our primary route will be from the VB amphitheartre down Dam Neck. Conklins will have tents up to accommodate us and we already have entertainment scheduled. We need all MINI/Mini owners to get the word out to all and any one who will listen.

Barry and Gary from MC2, upon receipt of copy, will put the attempt in the next issue. Channel 13 has alreday agreed to attend and if anyone knows a Helicopter Pilot that would be of Help.

With everyones help and Participation we as MINI/Mini owners can have a great day and raise funds for those who have given the ultimate sacrifice. We need all owners from c7m, HR and RCM to come together and show how MINI/Mini owners can make a difference.

Help and suggestions are welcome.

Thanks. Simon.

Am excited to participate - we will have both of our Minis on Parade.  Will there be a generic form for complining Vin #'s so we give you the correct information on the first try?  This will be FUN!  Please let us know when flyers will be available.  Will be more than happy to pass them out to Minis I see along the way :)
So what are the T-shirts going to look like?

Sounds like this is something we all need to be part of.  Looking forward to it.

Well, I was reviewing motoringfile this morning and for our record attempt the bar has just been raised as of March 28, read below for more details.  It's time to pull out all the stops and start gathering people.... FROM EVERYWHERE... Put the word out we need 270 MINI's... Let's Get it Together!

Below is a copy of the article connected to motoringfile.

On the evening of Wednesday, 28 March, 269 MINIs illuminated Blackpool and set a new Guinness World Record for the longest MINI convoy in the world. Owners travelled from as far as Croydon and Cardiff to be part of the historic two-mile route and help raise cash for Comic Relief. The record was previously held by the Vancouver MINI club when in 2004 they brought together 195 new and classic Minis. The parade was organised by UK MINI dealership Derek Woodman.

James Rashid, MINI Brand Manager at the dealership, said: ?We really wanted to do something for Comic Relief this year and the ?longest MINI convoy ever? seemed to fit the theme of ?The Big One?. We never imagined it would become this big! Hearty congratulations to my team for pulling it off and thanks to all the MINI owners for making it happen!?

WOW....  Looks like CF will have to call ALL mini owners from their database so no one is left out.  Is that legal???

CF has nothing to do with this except provding items for the raffles and cash for t-shirts. Yes it would be highly illegal for them to allow us to use their confidential customer info just as it would for any business to do so.

CF does in no way influence or have any decision making input on any event organized by c7m or any other Motoring club.

To break this record we are all going to have to come together to get the word out...and quickly.

I'm in... it will help to clarify the first post on what record is being attempted. (Just so it's at the top!)

If CF is willing to provide a mini for the cause, either my wife or a good well insured friend is willing to drive it.  002

May I suggest if ya'll are up for it.... What about getting some sponsor forms we can print out to get some friends and neighbors involved with donations.  It would help to have a clear understanding of exactly where the money is going and for what purpose so I may enlighten potential donors.

300 mini's is no small task... we'll need outside help for sure.

All the Money, all of it, will be given to the Seals. They have a fund to support the families of the fallen. 2006 was a bad year for Seal casualties. This money will help families with School and daily life. I'm hoping this will be the greatest showing of MINI/Minis ever seen, bar the Dragon, on the Eastern side of the country. We do have sponsorship forms we've used to give to businesses in the past that are on Club letterhead and signed by both President and Treasurer. If no-one objects we can genreate some with all 3 local clubs logos  recognizing the donation and the cause for the donation.  Glad to see so much interest, Thanks to all.
