Sunday the boot strut(s) failed and the boot closed on my back...Schultze is going to get fixed on Thursday, but I was still having difficulty breathing, so I went to the doc this morning.
Doc doesn't think I have a broken rib but the area is definitely tender. Got an Rx for muscle relaxant.
Lower right tooth has been bothering me since the incident on Sunday (I clenched my teeth HARD when the boot fell on me) and I could feel part of my tooth was chipped. Had an appt. scheduled with the dentist for Wed. morning, but the pain became significantly worse throughout the day, so the dentist squeezed me in late this afternoon.
I'm 40 years old and I have an impacted wisdom tooth in addition to the chipped tooth! Dentist called the oral surgeon and insisted that I be seen as soon as possible...so I go in tomorrow morning to get the tooth cut out. I've had a wisdom tooth pulled in the past, but I've NEVER had a wisdom tooth cut out. Has anyone here experienced it? What kind of monkey fun is in my immediate future?
At least the dentist gave me an Rx for hydrocodone.
I just hope I don't swell up & bruise too badly...I don't want people at the Dragon wondering what in the heck happened to me...although I could always use the line "You should see the OTHER guy!".
My jaw feels like it's on fire...eating/drinking anything warm or cold is painful. Hubby is out of town for business and I'm not a very good patient at all...(sigh).
Sorry...just felt the need to vent. I hate feeling sick but I hate not being "in control".

The lovely Air Force cut all of my wisdom teeth out as soon as I reported to my 1st permanent duty station. It wasn't bad. I didn't feel a thing. I had more trouble with the meds they gave me afterwards than I did with the actual surgery. Just make sure you don't use a straw or suck on anything because it will pop the stitches and cause other problems. Also don't know if you smoke...but if you do...don't! It will cause a "dry socket"...really nasty, I've heard. The worst part was getting food stuck in the holes. YUCKY!!! Good luck!! Let me know if you need anything.

I had one pulled that did not go quite right and had to have the jaw bone trimmed. It was not bad though. Do you have any braces wax? I imagine that the chip is letting everything into the tooth to the exposed nerve. Take some of that wax and put it on your tooth, it should close the hole where the air and liquid are getting to the nerve.
I had to do that once when a crown fell off. Just try to keep everything away from that side, like you haven't figured that out yet. You don't want to get any solid food on the wax, pretty nasty.
Hope all goes well for you. Sorry to hear about all the bad luck you have had. Isn't that the way it always goes when they are out of town!
If I can help you out let me know. :)

My sister suffered dry socket...she's a smoker (I'm not) and she drinks EVERYTHING from a straw. She ended up with a nasty infection. The cookout is this weekend and I guess I should bring some pudding, eh?

If I can help you out let me know. :) Jaw bone trimmed???!!! Awesome idea about the dental wax...with three of four teens in braces, I'm sure there's got to be some around here somewhere! Hubby told me on the phone that he figured something must've been wrong because I've been really cranky lately...before the boot fell on my back. Sheesh...I guess this is what it feels like to be teething!

You will be fine by Saturday. You should be able to eat what you want. Sounds like your only getting one tooth done.

Don :D Gosh, I hope you're right! The dentist didn't even realize that I still had wisdom teeth that hadn't appeared yet at my age. The oral surgeon is going to do a full panoramic xray to see if there are any other wisdom teeth that haven't come through yet.

When I was about 14, I had 4 removed sugicaly at the same time. I managed for about a week on liquids. One shouldn't be so bad, especially if you get a little knock-out juice. I just hope your not an exception like I was, and they find a 5th tooth were it should not exist. Now that one was awful. I didn't have feeling in my lower lip for almost 2 years! EEEWWWW

My son had all four of his removed not long ago. Came home and layed down for about an hour then went over his friends house to work on race cars. Never used any of his pain pills.

Upon taking & reviewing the panoramic xray, the surgeon had no choice but to postpone the procedure.
The wisdom tooth in question has traveled and left troubles in its' wake. Not only is the wisdom tooth impacted against the molar, pushing the molar up so much that the root of the molar is exposed and also abcessed, but the infection has spread to the jaw bone. The molar has been pushed out of place to such an extent that when my mouth is closed, the molar literally sits in the socket left behind by an upper wisdom tooth that had been pulled during my first pregnancy. Oral surgeon said it's not good.
The wisdom tooth is "wrapped" by "fingers" from the nerve bundle. The inflammation is severely painful and he has me on heavy duty antibiotics because he can't do the surgery when my gum/jaw is in this condition.
Tylenol 3 does NOTHING to help...by the time it starts to take the edge off the pain, it only last another 45 minutes and then like a lightswitch, the pain is turned on.
Vicodin works, but I get so sleepy!
I can barely talk and eating is a chore. Applesauce, spaghetti noodles, and pudding have been my buddies!
Oral surgeon also said there's a chance of nerve damage because of the way the nerve bundle has wrapped itself around the wisdom tooth. He said the antibiotic will cause some pain for a day or two and then subside once the infection is more under control and on the way to being eliminated...unfortunately, I literally thought my eardrum was going to explode all day today. The heat emanating from my ear, down along the jawbone, to the center of my chin can be felt if you hold your hand near my face. I feel like crap (absolutely no energy!) and I'm cranky as hell.
Sorry for venting...but thanks for reading this rambling message.

Wow, that SUCKS! :( Hope you feel better soon! :D I still have all 4 of my wisdom teeth and they came in straight but... I had to have two molars removed at different times years ago because of abscesses and both times it was horribly painful both before and after having the tooth pulled.
One time I drove myself back to the dentist's office right before it closed because after taking 3 Tylenol 3's and 2 Darvocets in a 5 hour period it still hurt to the point of tears. I begged the dentist to give me another big shot of novacaine just so I could rest after being awake and in pain for 30 odd hours. When I got back home I fell asleep for 19 hours heh... I woke up feeling great.

I'm going to call the oral surgeon today to ask if there is ANY possibility of getting antibiotics via IV right away...I always do better when IV meds are given. It's taking way too long for the antibiotics to start working--I'm in more pain now than I was before I went in.
Schultze is in the shop at CF...I hope I get him back today, although I have a feeling I might not get him back until early next week! A boot strut needs to be replaced and when I called Parts to see if it was already in stock, I was told that it wasn't. I asked if Frank had ordered one (he hadn't at that point). Even if it gets ordered today, it won't be here until Tuesday!
Remember the cartoons as a kid when a character would drop something on their foot or hand and it would get SUPERBIG and visually throb? That's how my ear & jaw feel right now.
Thank goodness it's Friday!
