It is my understanding that the other two clubs (DC & Richmond) are doing specific things to assist with the June 10th Guinness attempt.

Is anyone available to locate & secure blocks of hotel/motel rooms for the out-of-towners?

A contribution of this type would be a great help for the success of the attempt.

How exactly do you go about blocking off hotel rooms without having to reserve them & put your credit on the line?

Exactly!

That's what's making the whole part of securing rooms so difficult.

It'd probably be easiest for people to secure their own accommodations at this point.

Erika, when I've traveled to an out of area event, I've always secured my own hotel. Usually, the event organizer will arrange a discounted block of rooms at a local hotel, but not always.

We could contribute a list of "good" hotels to help ensure they get a nice room and their stay is nice.  - lal

I'll offer - in case any out of towners are looking here for ideas - my recommendatio will be to look in the Chesapeake Square Mall area

a) this is away from the beach so you won't get hit with the VB tourist rates

b) due to the build up of Joint Forces Command over there, several new   places have opened up near exits 9, 10, 11 of 664.  Two Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Hilton Suites, Sleep Inn

and it is easy to get to the beach for the event as you are right on 664....

We've tried securing discounted blocks of rooms, but it won't happen because there isn't a credit card or corporate account to go on file for damages & unused rooms.

Why not get CF to use their corporate account?

Good point. This is something that should be looked into for future events. Bith here and events we go away to. What we've done in the past is negotiate a group of rooms for a specific price and have people make their own arraingments. That way no one has to come (potentially) out of pocket. If you make arraingements far enough out, it hasn't been a problem. I'll be glad to look into something for the future events. If nothing else, just to get a list of nearby hotels for future stuff. Besides, hanging out at the hotels can be just as much fun as the events themselves!
