So here are some more questions that could keep me out of trouble...

Are the local authorities going to have a problem with my Milltek exhaust? What about my window tint? I have 35% on the sides (behind the B pillar), and 20% on the rear window.

Lots of good comments being posted about Checkered Flag MINI. I think I am going to have to go meet them when I get into town so I can get a checkup and iPod adapter installed.

Thanks to everyone for all the help and advice so far. It has been very overwhelming! :D

You'll have no problems with your exhaust. The Milltek is quieter than stock and much quieter than most of the coffee can Civics and Neons that sound like Weed Eaters.

I'm not sure about the tint though, I'll check with the State Police.

I used to be a local cop here. you may have trouble with the tint. I know I personnally stopped people for that but only if it was "blacked out" The legal limits are: 75% allowed on the drivers and passengers front windows, 75% allowed 4inches down on the front windshield and 50% allowed on all rear windows.

Well... :(

Thanks for the info. Any recommendations on tint installers? I wanted to get it re-done anyway.

Company called Car Stuff in Kempsville area did my stripes and I know they do tinting.  He had great prices on the stripes and did a good job on mine.  I was talking to him about tinting, but never got pricing.  I know he will only do the legal percentage allowed.

Thanks. Not a huge hurry on it since the MINI is still here in Italylandia here with me.

One of the biggest changes I am going to have to adapt to is the speed difference. Speed limits are more of a recommendation than an actual law here. I go 70 mph every morning on the back road coming into work, and when we convoy to go somewhere like Milan and take the Autostrada (freeway), we usually set the cruise control at 100.

Fuel economy should improve though!

That speed sounds about right for I64, but remember to drop it to 20 mph for going through the tunnels.

I've lived in HR almost all my life, and I have yet to figure out this phenomenon.

People slow down to 35 for the HRBT and MMBT where the speed limit is 55, but we speed up to 55 in the DT and MT where the speed limit is 35!

But I digress...

In general, I would say it is safe to do 9 over on the highways, and 4-6 over on the city roads. This can be bumped to about 15 over on I95 between Richmond and NoVA.
