Just for reference (most of these numbers come from US Census quick facts sheet at
http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/51000.html):
The population of Virginia is 7,642,884
24.1% of the population is under 18 years of age, making the VA population that can vote (and therefore have political influence) 5,808,591.
CVAP (citizens voting age population that can and do vote) for 2004 was 59.8 meaning of the 5.8 odd million, only 3,473,537 voted.
The 54,370 who have signed the petition equals only 1.56% of the voting age population who ACTUALLY vote. So ? long way to go before this can be taken seriously. But for only having been up a few days, not bad.
By the way ? math, not my strong suit. Someone may want to check my work, lol.
Peace,
R.
