So folks the first project went off smashingly, I think. What do you think? I hope every one is happy.

The only thing I think I would change is perhaps make the sewing day a little shorter. Some of us got started around 10:00 and some of us didn't finish until after 8 pm - - that's kind of a heavy duty day, don't you think? So maybe we can start making our events hours specific, say 10 to 4 or noon to 6 or some variation there of?  What do you guys think?

Next up on our agenda is making a purse! I know several people are excited with this one! I also think we can get this one done in a LOT less time than the quilts! But here is the deal, I have several different purse patterns (maybe up to 30 different patterns) and given that everyone's taste is different, I am sure there will be a lot of variation in what one wants to make. Also, making a purse gets into using stuff other than fabric (like interfacing and plastic canvas, etc.) So I have an idea - what if I post pictures of the different purses that one could make at our next event, everyone picks what they want to do and  we make arrangements to go to the fabric store all together so I'll be there to help out if you can't find something you need to make the purse or want to substitute one thing for another, etc - sort of moral support, lol. So what do you think?

Next ... dates! Wow, Angie is angling for this coming Sunday .... hmmmm ... and you know, out of hand I would probably say "NOOOOOOOOOOO" I want to sleep late on Saturday and I have church on Sunday and I fly to CA on Wednesday!!!! But than I looked at the calendar and noted that if we don't do something this coming weekend, the weekend after I will be in CA, the weekend after that I will have just gotten back from CA and will so not want to do anything meaning the next available weekend would be August 18 - an entire MONTH away!!! So looking at it that way, this coming weekend actually looks like an option!

What do you guys think about all of this?

Setting defined sewing hours?

Doing a "field trip" all together to the fabric store?

When to do the next project?

Let me know!!! I had so much fun with you guys! I really think this is going to be a GREAT side group for us!!!

Peace,
R.

I know that the winery run is on Saturday, but Sunday sounds good to me.  I won't be staying overnight near the vineyard.

As far as setting a specific block of time, I'm ok with that.  10-4 or 10-6, either is good for me.  I don't want our enthusiasm to cause a burn out on your part.  It's really cool to be able to take home a finished project, but I understand that many things we are going to be doing may take more time and can be finished another day.

Thanks for taking time out to teach us!  We're having a blast!

I am available Sunday because we aren't staying overnight at the winery either.  Maybe we could just do our field trip to the fabric store on Sunday?  Then schedule making the purse after you get home and have a weekend or 2 to settle back in.  What do ya think about that?

I also don't have a problem with blocking out time spots for our projects.  Don't want to burn out our teacher!!  LOL!!  I think 10-4 or 12-6 would be good.  But whatever you decide is okay with me.  I'm just happy to be there and happy to be making all these cool things!   :D

FYI, there is autocross on the following days: August 5,12,18,19.

Riqui, A trip to the store is a great idea! Please post pictures of the different purses so we can pick the one we want to make.

I have to say that I would love to do Sundy too, but I have a house that has not been put together and with all the autocross coming up and the winery run on Saturday I am going to have to stay home. Also I am dog sitting the week of August 16th for my friend Jackie and need to be around to let the dogs out. Jackie has been letting mine out for the past few weeks that I have been running around. I think it is time for me to give her a break.

I am happy to offer my home but I don't have any of the great things that Riqui has, super sewing machine, sewing tables, a table to cut fabric on, chairs, the extra smart coffee pot and refridgerator.
And instead of 4 cats I have 5 dogs. But the offer still stands if anyone wants to bring all their stuff over.

We're taking a small road trip to OBX on Saturday and Sunday will be the Knotts Isle Peach Fest.......Can't wait to see the various designs and, Riqui, with all that's going on with you being outta town let us know when your next free weekend will be to at least help w/the 'cutting and bagging'...lol

It also occurred to me that we may have to go to the store to get our supplies on a Saturday since the fabric stores may be closed on Sunday.  I know Riqui looked to see that Fabric Hut is indeed closed on Sundays.

Not sure about Hancock Fabric.

I'm game for whenever.  Just a thought Riqui, once we get our supplies can you send us home with "homework" to help expedite the process once we get to your home (ie - pressing fabric and possibly even cutting for those brave enough to attempt on their own)?  Thinking out loud again (oh my gosh, what's that smell?).

OKay - how does this sound to everyone:

I called Hancock's and they have Sunday hours (noon to 5 pm)

I know everyone is excited about seeing the purse designs but I just realized what an incredible pain in the ass it would be to scan, upload and post every single purse pattern I have.

I also realize that this coming weekend is not great for everyone but most people want to do a group field trip so....

Why don't we do a short day get together/field trip. Everyone who can make it comes to my house Sunday  morning around 11-11:30ish. We mull over the patterns, pick out what every one wants, make our lists, check them twice, head over en mass to Hancock's, and do our buying (we may even do a girls' lunch after if time and inclination permit?)

This saves me from having to scan/load/post every purse pattern, we get our field trip in, you all have things to be working/thinking about over the next 3 weeks until we can sew together again. And I may even take Laurie's suggestion and give you "homework" to do before the next group sewing day!

Cheers or Jeers on this idea? Suggestions, modifications? Let me know - -

Peace,
R.

Ok, I like the idea of sorting thru patterns and en masse heading to hancock fabrics.  I love the idea of lunch....I know Laurie said something about the munching (maybe we munch too often?)  However, I don't remember anything about homework!  Yikes!  As long as I won't be penalized if I don't do it, I'm ok with it.  LOL

I always give opportunities for extra credit to either make up for missed assignments or bring up low grades. Right now you already have 10 extra credit points for coming on a different Saturday so you could learn and than showing up on the following Saturday to help out rather than make another project of your own - KUDOS in deed! So I'll let an assignment or two slide, lol.

Trish & LeLane -

Oh my god I forgot to address the fact ya'll don't think you can make it Sunday - NOT TO WORRY!!!! LOL

I am not leaving those who cannot make it Sunday out. If, because of prior commitments etc, you can't make it on Sunday but you still want to come look at patterns and have me go with you to Hancocks, PM with what days/times work best for you (as long as those days/times are before Aug 1) and we can make arrangements around your schedule(s).

Peace,

Hmm, either one works for me!   :troll:
