Those mileage figures for both the Cooper and the S look too good to be true. Nice looking interior though.

I'm sure our more technically adept friends on the forum can more deeply engage this topic, but the 31mpg figure for a turbocharged engine seems a bit high to me. I know that unlike a supercharger the turbo doesn't need to have as rich a fuel delivery off boost (right folks?) but the turbo runs thick at a greater ramp as the boost increases over a supercharger. That said, I wonder if the US emissions testing has changed since the introduction of OBDII pretty much killed turbos in this country except for SAAB in the late 90's. Mr. EPA must have a very light foot during testing now. And we just have trouble because we never met an on-ramp we didn't like! Thoughts???

I had a 99 Saab 9-3 SE with the high output turbo awhile back...  it's a 2.0 liter with 215 hp, 215 tq... and I typically saw around 29 in the city, low 40's on the highway.  So... i think it's achieveable with the new setup and less displacement.  Let's face it... is it realistic with your foot in it hard like I know mine would be?  Absolutely not... but then, show me a car that is.

Manufacturers will soon be forced to display more realistic mileage figures, as the EPA test loop is a total joke.

They, the MA's,  are off to Arizona to drive them in January.  I'm told late Jan/early Feb for customer test drives....
