I have a very, very plain Cooper with a ding on the bumper where some loser conducted a hit and run.  I felt like the ugly duckling at the last rally - but I'd love to help with the parade.  I can drive or walk - as long as you don't ask me to wear a "kiss me I'm Irish" button.  I may have fair skin and curly red hair but this girl is a Scot.

Hi M,

The cool thing about the cars is there is no ugly duckling. icon_razz

I remember on one of our earlier runs, my first I believe, a Mini showed up head to toe covered in dirt/mud and I think he was my favorite.  I love the rugged look icon_razz

Gary how many spots are left for the parade?

I'm one of "those" people that don't own a MINI!

.....this girl is a Scot.

Aye, A Scotsman is just an Irishman who can swim!!

You're always welcome regardless of dings, dents and flags of one's heritage!!   055     I learned to drink whiskey in Scotland, and ya know, ya don't call it Scoth in Scotland and ya don't baby it down with water or ice.   I love Scotland!

Bye bye,   039

Cool, another Scot. My heritage goes back to the border clans.  063

Your MINI is no plainer than mine. In fact I'm thinking about blacking out the chrome to down play it even more.

Came across this information as well as the official parade web site that identifies the parade route and has pictures from 2006. Of the 30 Mini's requested it looks like only about 12 signed up so far.

Best St. Patrick's Day Parades in Virginia
By Lima, published Feb 20, 2008

The best St. Patrick's Day Parades in Virginia can be found across the state, mostly in spots where towns folks have maintained their Irish traditions over generations and welcome everyone to share a celebration of what it means to be Irish. These celebrations are usually held on weekend days close to the March 17 feast day of St. Patrick as celebrated in the Church. Some Virginia parades pack all of their celebratory music and dance into a compact line of march. But other parade, though filled with fun and excitement are also a prelude to more festivities that follow the conclusion of the parade.

Norfolk, VA . The 41st annual St. Patrick's Day Parade in Norfolk, Virginia is a good example of the latter. As they have done in each of the last 40 years local organizers in Norfolk, Virginia have put together a commemorative St. Patrick's Day Parade, this one to set off at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 15. Of course the first parade several decades ago was really made up of only a few bands and attracted a few hundred people. Recent parades in Norfolk have included upwards of 190 marching units and floats and of course the size of the appreciative crowds have multiplied accordingly.

In Norfolk, VA the parade was started by and has since been organized by the local Knights of Columbus organization. This church based organization determined along the way to add not just more people to the parade but a whole post parade gathering at the local Knights of Columbus lot. If you still have the energy for a post parade activity come along, just follow all the green hats. You will be led to an open area with lots of food for sale and great Irish music. The post party will run 12:30 when the parade is due to be completed until 4 p.m.

Eric, we may be able to bring both MINI's.  I'll talk to Neal and see what he thinks.  Everyone who is behind "Frank" may need to wear hearing protection or he can bring up the rear.  LOL! 044

Hey Eric,  What do you think about getting club magnets made up like some of us have for the Strawberry Festival Parade?

I could see what Steve with Custom Graphics could put together.

Angela - It looks like Randy "Highlander" is heading this parade up. Shoot him a PM or posting with the info for magnets to see what he thinks of them.

I'll also try to get both our MINI's there.

Wouldn't do any magnet orders.

From Randy:

Received a letter from the Parade Committee today. They said they have too many entries this year. Gosh I sent the application back in Dec. I will try earlier for next year. However, Mike A. and I will be meeting on Thursday to plan our own parade. So stand by, not all is lost.

Alrighty...  well, I'm hardly surprised.  The City of Norfolk has it's head WAY up it's own A.... well, you get the idea.  For example...  They just unanimously approved giving a developer 5 acres valued at over 3 million between Scope and MacArthur Mall, as well as an agreement to provide over 5 million in assistance and infrastructure.  Meanwhile, our friend Riqui told Deb over 60% of Lake Taylor High Schools teachers opted NOT to renew their contracts this year.  Gee City... maybe we should build a new school, pay some teachers a little more, and get an administration that helps keep the order so the teachers can work with out threats, disruptions and horrible attitudes on a daily basis.  If I thought I had a hope to sell my house in this market, I'd move immediately.

From Randy:

" The Knights of Columbus did not accept our parade application.  We are not in the Norfolk St Patty Day Parade. Mike A. and a couple other MINI owners are going to meet at the Granby North Restaurant around 0830 and carve us out a spot to watch the parade and partake in the GNR bands, food and beer.  Everyone from HRMINI is welcome to join us.  The web site to the GNR is http://grnadynorth.com for directions."

Thanks Randy
