My car's finish was keyed the other day.  093  It is through the clearcoat to the color but not through the color coat and the body isn't dented.  If you run your nail down the side to the scratch, you can feel it.  It's two scratches and it touches all three side panels.  091  Is that salvageable without repainting or do I have to repaint?  I'm not sure I can cough up several hundred bucks immediately.

What should I expect?  Do I wash it or wait to have it looked at?

That's one thing I will never understand.  No idea why someone would do that to someones elses property.

MAN THAT BITES!!!   076  076

My car was "damaged" back in October and since vandalism falls under comp coverage; insurance-wise; I went through my respective company to cover it. You can take the car anywhere you like and pay your comp deductible-the best thing is that comp claims do not count against you....just a thought on that part. (A police report may be required)

uhhhh, that sucks.
in virginia beach, right down the street from my apartment, they shot a bunch of cars with paintballs, last year.
i'm all in favor of public caning for vandals. at least their won't be many repeat offenders.

In front of your house?   :103:That's just not right.   icon_frown

I have all the neighborhood teens steering clear of my home lately.  065 Two summers ago they decided to rampage the neighborhood with one of those huge waterballoon sling shots that takes three people to operate.  Two holding and one pulling back and shooting the balloon.  I just happen to be getting ready for bed and was standing right in front of the bedroom window they shot  063(shades closed of course).  The thump scared the mess out of me.  119 I hauled it for the front door and saw kids running down the street.  I jumped in the truck  044 and went after them.  I caught them running into a neighbors garage and pulling the door as fast as possible.  096 Yes, I went up to the home and confronted the adults that answered the door.  094 They took up for the kids, 018 saying they had not been out and about but in the house the entire time.  Little to say when the police showed up minutes later the jaw dropping started.  Other nieghbors that had been hit had called the police and they were out checking the scene.  The kids started pointing fingers pretty fast and the parents were lost for words of course.

After this scene I had my kid tell all his friends that I had cameras installed around the house in all locations to monitor just this kind of behavior.  If anything like this ever happened again I would be forced to show up in front of parents or police (depending on the crime of course) with my recorded DVD in hand to prove my case.  Word apparently traveled fast.  045 I've not had any further problems.  Sad thing is that I live in what's considered a nicer neighborhood where you wouldn't think these sort of things take place.  So much for that story. icon_cry  This was during the kids spring break from school.  Apparently they were bored. 069

I've become that kind of home owner that I use to hate as a child.  I didn't even join my friends for toilet paper rolling for fear of getting caught and my Dad putting me through a brick wall for my bad behavior.  Thank God my son seems to respect others property and doesn't see the fun in the bad behavior either.

Sorry to get off in left field. PopcornEmoticon  Back to the keying 099 now.

We've had similar issues in my neighborhood.  I've taken to being friendly in general to the bulk of the kids, but that hasn't stopped some harmless vandalism anyways (raw burger thrown at a window once).  I tore ass outside and caught them as well... Dad made him come clean the window and mess, and apologize.  I had to grin, it was really pathetic!

But yeah, the mini and the mustang kind of stand out in the neighborhood... and apparently I have the smoothest driveway in a 3 block radius, because all the kids just love trying to skateboard in my driveway when I'm not around.  Get that freakin piece of wood with wheels away from the vehicle... no.. just step away and move along son.   074

Thanks for the steer, Trish!  It's good to have a pro around.  I've got the wheels in motion.  Frank Lindsey at MINI was rather incensed by this as well.  He referred me to a good body shop and I'll be taking the car for an estimate.

If for some reason you need another route to take with the repair check out Aero Colours.  They are mobile but have a shop for bigger jobs.  The Hubby runs into them often on his jobs in the Hampton/Newport News/Williamsburg areas.
