Hi everyone! I was thinking today that I'd like to explore the possibility of something new this Spring in the form of a weekend trip. I know many of you are Dragon bound, and I really want to schedule this in a manner that allows for the Dragon folks to participate, both time wise and financially, so I especially need to hear from you. "Whatcha have in mind Ben?" --- I'd like to spend a Friday and Saturday night down on Ocracoke Island in NC. When? This is very flexible right now. Off season pricing is much better of course... but that shouldn't limit us completely. Off season prices typically end May 22nd at most places. So really, we can go anytime in April or May for the better pricing, or we can spend more, and go in June. OR... I can just go and report how my vacation was. lol. Totally up to you guys what you think about this. I think we could coordinate a Crab Leg run at Jimmy's in Kill Devil Hills on the Sundays return drive, meeting with folks that couldn't/didn't come for the whole weekend. Here is a link to Ocracoke information: http://www.ocracokevillage.com/main.htmSo please, give it some thought, post your thoughts, and from the masses, we'll find something that will work for most. (Assuming interest is there.)

Is it a place that will allow our four-legged children? Wasn't Angie talking about a run out towards the mountains?

haha... yeah... I'll be in Colorado with the family.
BTW Laurie... There are pet friendly hotels in Ocracoke, so I'm sure we'll figure something out for Sidney.

Laurie, That probably won't be happening. There didn't appear to be enough interest. Sorry. We'll probably wait a while and survey the idea again. Maybe next spring.

What about renting a house down there? Or is that always by the week...? I know that there are some rentals that allow pets, but if Marty and I go (with our two), and Laurie goes (with Sydney), they may not allow 3 at a time.

The house or cottage idea is a good one, and I believe many places do weekend rentals. It will really depend on the numbers we get total. There are some larger hotel, cottage type places (Think Fontana Lodge type) that have a variety of rooms, suites, and apartments that will work for a larger group. I really want to make sure we stay somewhere that is pet friendly, as I felt terrible picking someplace that wasn't friendly that way for the fall drive. (Never happen again!)
I think in terms of timing I'd like to go when it's comfy to wear shorts and t-shirts in the day mostly, and maybe something slightly heavier at night... maybe enjoy a good fire somewhere where we can circle up some chairs and jaw on into the night. So really, anytime into April would be fine with us. I guess we'll see here soon as more post up.

It's cool, no biggy. We're doing the Acorn trip with a different group of friends in our 4x4's this spring. So it's all good, I still get to go!!! And I love your idea too! We'll try really hard to make plans on coming as soon as you nail down a date. Just hope it isn't on an autox weekend (TSCC or NASA).

Rest assured, it won't be an AutoX weekend. I'm not missing one of those if I can help it this year.... ever.

Ben,
Sounds like a great idea. I will have to wait and see if I can go. I may be going to Orlando in April just before the Dragon trip for a conference. And then I may to be in Alabama for a wedding on May 10th. I hope I will be able to fit it in.
Pet friendly would be great! I hate leaving my guys at home all the time.

That sounds like fun. Count me in, depending on track schedules. I was thinking about suggesting (for the return) taking the ferry further south and coming back through Morehead City but then I saw it's a two and a half hour ferry ride. That might be a little much for a big group.

Sounds like fun!!! I'll keep my eyes on this thread. We love that area and haven't been in the last two years. Minis don't do the driving on the beach thing to well though huh? That's okay, we'll just miss out on the nudist beach combers from our last trip. Could've cared less about it if we wouldn't have had our kid with us. It made for some great laughs for a few hours. The Hubby will be there Saturday, April 19 for a gathering with the GT500 friends we've made. They are actually doing the weekend thing in Nags Head and heading to Ocracoke Island for the day, for who knows what reason.
