didn't I tell you the story of a friend (girl  002) in HS who got a used Pinto....I was riding with her once and she pulled out in second.  I asked why she skipped first....too slow.  Then I noticed we stayed in second.....why don't you shift to third?  I'm saving it for when second wears out......  oooooooookkkkaaaaaaaaaa  119

On the serious side ... the problem is in a Honda transmission.  Repair or even replacement with one from a junk hard should be very easy.....  Maybe he just got a bad tranny.  Or maybe he did something to it during the FLAME meet in Orlando....

Remember though, it has a different final drive ratio than a standard Civic to compensate for the 13" wheels.  So not just a simple swap, a pretty intensive tear down in order to move the final drive over.  Would be easier to just rebuild the current tranny than buy another and tear down 2.

I lost third gear in my 510 race car one time. On the first lap of the race I had shifted into fourth then decided I really wanted to stay in third. Without ever releasing clutch I went from third to fourth back to third. Heard the crunch going back into third and when I let the clutch out there was nothing.  093  I was stuck in fourth gear for the entire race. The sad part was I turned the fastest lap of the weekend while I was stuck in fourth.  102

Roy,

Upon completion of the race, did you go into your black box and connect it to your laptop to analyze the stats for that particular race and discover that perhaps a new driving technique would be required to turn better lap times?    017

Or,.....did you just fix third gear afterwards, and carry on as usual.....  102

I did look at the data (after I got home) and saw where I carried more momentum through a couple of turns and was able to carry that additional speed down the straights. I was concentrating more on carrying momentum rather than shifting or entry speed and ended up going faster (at least for one lap). This was a prime example of how changing one technique can make a big change over all (not always for the good). I do find myself shifting less now which makes things smoother.
