I no longer have an detailer in the house. Anyhoo - my car is in need of a thorough Spring cleaning in and out.  Am wondering if after the Dragon, anyone would like to hold a workshop and teach us the finer points in detailing a  Mini correctly?
Thanks,
Laurie

I'm no expert but I do have some experience in cleaning cars. I used to have a national level show car (still have the car just don't show it) that I had to clean too damn often. I got burned out with the whole show scene so I got into racing.

If someone wants to volunteer a large shaded driveway and we can pick a date that I'm not working on the race car I'll talk about and show you guys what I've learned over the years. I'm not going to fully detail a car (it takes too long) but I'll show helpful hints and talk about the products I've used.

This sounds like an offer to those who may need guidance to the next level of owner maintenance. I'll keep an eye out here. I may be able to provide some shop space on a week end if someone has any ideas to trade.

Let me know. dates, times who would be interested......

Thanks John for offering a nice place to hold the party.

The next question is how many people would be intrested in coming out and maybe picking up a few pointers on how to better clean your car. I'm sure after the festivities are over we will go somewhere for refreshments.

I think I'm with Roy on this one in a sense that you will be getting some first class instruction on how to DIY.

I've never been one to back away from a dirty car before.

I'd like to see some feedback as for how many people will show. Bringing your MINI will look nice out front too, (Photo ops).

FYI, I'm going to try to set this up, when everyone is ready, at Stans Collision Center 12823 Jefferson Ave. This is just a couple miles west of Patrick Henry Mall, and for those familiar with the area, theres plenty of places to choose from for dining and tipping a few afterwards.

Keep me posted folks.   023

Did this Detailing 101 ever get underway? If not, can we get it before the GWR500? I am debating doing it myself vs paying someone. Little bit of dog hair to, and it doesn't seem to wanna come out. Thank you.

We only had a couple people (you make three) express any intrest. If we can one or two more I'll put something together.

Cool, there's another one.

I'm leaving for the track first thing tomorrow (imagine that) so I'll get up with MD_IN_UK next week to see if we can set this thing up.

Anybody else intrested please post here so we can get an idea of the level of intrest and about how many are coming.

Geez, is this going to help me 102 in the next couple of hours? PopcornEmoticon Just finished mowing the grass and was looking forward to doing something 044 this afternoon in the Mini. 045  IT'S TOO DIRTY!!! 088 It needs a RUB-A-DUB-DUB in a really big 103 tub.  Then a really soft massage 112 with a very plush and absorbant speciality towel. 045

Anyway, I'm sure there's no help in site for this afternoon/evening on this issue. 022

I'd be interested in trying to catch up with everyone on this topic. 045

Hi Gravity!

Do: Go to North American Motoring (NAM) and read the detailing section about clay-barring.
Do: Get a Meguiar's claybar kit.  It includes a "quick detailer" spray and carnuba wax.  Get it at Wal*Mart for $10 less than auto parts stores sell it for.
Do: Order some Prima Mystique (car wash), Prima Hydro (killer quick detailer stuff), Prima Epic (great polish) and Black WOW (great stuff for keeping the black plastic stuff black instead of gray) from Detailer's Paradise.  Links on NAM detailer's board.
Do: Follow all directions as to use of the above products to the letter.
Do: Get some stuff called RejeX from http://www.corrosionx.com.  Use it on your rims.  Clay bar them too BTW.
Do: Plan on spending hours and hours doing all of this stuff the first time.

Don't: wash your Mini with Dawn, Palmolive or other such detergents.  They strip wax off of the car.
Don't: Wax/polish your Mini with lesser products.
Don't: Do any of the above cleaning/polishing/clay-barring in direct sunlight.  Particularly when wearing shorts for the first time (outside) in 25 years and sit on the ground in direct sunlight causing 1st degree burns on the inside of your legs.  That is, unless you're a glutton for punishment like me...   105
Don't: Park your Mini where the pterodactyls that live in my neighborhood can find it. Particularly when they've been eating blackberries.
