A thread for questions, answers, tips, .............. Why thank you Wendy! 1: What is MCASS? 2: Do I need a helmet for all types of autocross? What type? 3: I joined and paid for membership to TSCC. Do I need to do anything more? Join SCCA? 4: What are the warranty implications of autocrossing? 5: Tug has a DDMWorks full race intake, what class will that put him in? 6: I still have run-flats... I know, I know... Can I still autocross with them? 7: I've read that I have to take everything loose out of the car including the mats, true? 8: Insurance implications? There will be more questions... LOTS more...

A thread for questions, answers, tips, .............. Why thank you Wendy! 1: What is MCASS? MINI Cooper Autocross Sniper School, Designed to give newbie autox'ers confidence in what their car can do. MCASS2 will be in July this year. 2: Do I need a helmet for all types of autocross? What type? Yes. I don't know what rating we are using...... other's will jump in here, I'm sure. For TSCC you can borrow a helmet for free. 3: I joined and paid for membership to TSCC. Do I need to do anything more? Join SCCA? Joining SCCA will give you a discount on SCCA events, like the ones at Pungo. Pungo is a great place to autox! 4: What are the warranty implications of autocrossing? IMHO, nothing you can do on an autox course would void your warrenty. With that said, don't hit a cone and try to use the warrenty fix any damage. ie. you rip off a front mud flap by hitting a cone, and then take it to the Flag and say it just fell off. 5: Tug has a DDMWorks full race intake, what class will that put him in?.....hmmmmm..... Bueller.....Bueller..... I'm not real sure Jeff? 6: I still have run-flats... I know, I know... Can I still autocross with them? Yep, I ran a whole season on run flats. As you know, this are not the stickiest of tires, but if your ooptions are to be on run flats or stay home....... time to hear the run flats squeal!! 7: I've read that I have to take everything loose out of the car including the mats, true? ABSOLUTLY YES. This is a safety issue. Your car won't get through TECH Inspection without everything being removed. Also, you'll be surprised at the noise all that stuff makes when it's crashing around in your car!! 8: Insurance implications? Don't Ask, Don't Tell. There will be more questions... LOTS more...

I haven't looked at the rulebook lately, but intake, cat-back exhaust, rear sway bar, shocks, and R compounds are all ok for stock class I think.

TJ, why would you steer him in that direction. Rear Sway bar puts you into STX if you have an S and STS I believe if you have a cooper. Anything that changes the HP from the stock HP it bumps your class. If you have a truly stock car you can use R compounds with no penalties. If your class has changed then using R compounds will also change your class.

I don't know why one question always begs another littleonetasha, do you? I suppose it could be just human nature, right? </pun> Sorry, I couldn't resist that one. Here is the website for TSCC http://www.tidewatersportscarclub.com/index.php?option=com_frontpage&Itemid=1 The join link is on there somewhere. I think it costs $20/year for one person. Be sure to sign up soon if you are going to an ACU-4 event because that will give them time to get you on the access list for Little Creek Amphib Base. ** Edited to add ** I just checked and you need to sign up for the June 15th ACU event ASAP! There are only 3 spots left right now but they do have a waiting list in case someone cancels. Registration is $20 for the event. ** I'm not sure about having to be a member to do the MCASS thing. I wish they'd change the name of it though, every time I see it I think "Mc Ass" Is that a new dish that McDonald's sells or is that an accurate answer for the question, "What does most McDonald's food taste like?"

New question! Numbers: All cars will required to have their number displayed on each side of the car. Numbers must be at least 8in tall and must be a contrasting color to the color of the car.Numbers... Assuming magnetic is OK since I've seen people talk about them here before, are there any limitations as to style or the actual number itself? What if someone else already has the number(s) I choose? Can I choose a 3 digit number? Is there an easy place to get magnetic numbers? I entered the June 15th event in position 150 because it was almost full already and I wanted to watch the whole thing first anyway. Do I need to bring something to eat or can I take off and come back? I signed Tug up as SMS because of my DDM full race intake. I signed myself up as Novice because I've never done this before. One rule says that if I have hubcaps, leave them at home. I have lug caps as part of my stock Crown Spokes. Do I need to take them off before the race or are they ok? I assume that I will need a folding lawn chair since the website mentions it and because I've been to ACU-4 before and I know that there are no bleachers out there. Can I also bring a cooler with sodas and water? I know I'll have to leave it out of the car when I do my run(s). Are those of you who are running in the AM heats going to stick around until the end? I would really appreciate some constructive criticism when I'm done. I'm sure that there will be more questions later. I'm just an inquisitive SOB.

TJ, why would you steer him in that direction. Rear Sway bar puts you into STX if you have an S and STS I believe if you have a cooper. Yikes, sorry for the bad info - I should either know what I'm talking about or keep quiet. Lelane is right. Front sway bars are can be changed and stay in stock class. And the air filter can be changed - not the intake. Hey, at least I got tires and cat back exhaust correct. I think the intake got me because on my car the air filter is my intake - there is nothing but the filter. Bring a cooler with food and drinks. The ACU-4 sailors also cook and sell hamburgers/hotdogs/chips/cold drinks on site.

You can take off the caps at the auto-x with all the over loose things in your car. As for numbers, alot of people just use painters tape. You maybe able to move up if people don't show up which happens alot.
