So now that Ventidue is all paid off, the strange sounds are starting.

There is a (what a would call) a belt squeak when the engine is cold, and tends to go away after about 10 minutes of run time. It definitely gets louder with increased RPMs.

The belt seems to be in good condition. Scott and I put a new one on about a year ago while installing the Alta pulley (right before he went to start up Det Monterey).

Update #1

The squeaking is not getting any better.  icon_sad

I was looking at NAM and someone mentioned that the belt tensioner might be out of limits - you are supposed to be able to see holes aft of the spring. I checked mine out and I don't see the holes back there, only about 1/4" until the T-stop. Can someone with an Alta 15% pulley go take a look at theirs please?

I will try to take pictures tonight when it is dark. I couldn't get them to come out in the sunlight.

Both Marty and I have had a squeak like you describe; his went away after a few months, mine didn't. I had our mechanic look at my car several weeks ago and he couldn't find anything. Marty did some research on NAM and said that he found others who had a squeak but nothing else came of the search. We are ignoring it for now.

I am thinking about changing out the belt, even though it is a year old. I know they are not supposed to stretch much, but by belt tensioner does not seem to be sitting correctly.

Thanks for the input!

I hear you about the squeaking.  My old suspension had aluminum bushings top and bottom, and it always squeaked when I hit bumps in the road.  It drove my fricken nuts!  But I still miss it's ride...   009

Anywho...  I've heard in the past moisture can build up on your belt.  It could also be a glazing of the belt.  Maybe the one you have on there was a cheapo.  Would not hurt to change it.

Anyone know a good place to get the belt tensioner tool? Might be a good thing to keep handy.

With the warmer weather, the sound has gone away.  023
