That's awesome Jeff and pets are permitted in some of the cottages!  And some of the cottages are cheaper than $109 per night.  Too cool!!

Jeff, while this place looks nice with all the meals included would suggest that we have to be there for each meal since we had paid for them.

And the rates are per person which would not be bad if you are planning on going by yourself. But for thoes that have 2 or 3 people in their party I think it may be too expensive.

Just my 2 cents.  icon_frown

True..  I was thinking of it being a base of operations but it's far enough away from Skyline Drive that it would be impractical.  It would make a great place for a weekend of back road shredding though.  I spent a weekend up there last October with my (then) girlfriend and we had a great time.  I don't particularly like wine but there are wineries all over the place up there.  We were there during the Apple Harvest Festival too so there was plenty to do.

One other thought, and I'm not trying to be argumentative here  icon_biggrin , they will pack a box lunch for you if you intend to be away during lunch.  You just let them know the night before and they will have it ready for you in the morning.  icon_mrgreen

Them packing a lunch sounds great. Having a picnic would be fun. The last few years we have taken off in the morning and been gone until late. And the wineries idea sounds like fun too. And I am not trying to be argumentative either but 210 a night for 2 people is out of my price range. And I can only speak for me not everyone else.

Yeah, I have to agree... I have 4 people on my end, and will definitely need 2 rooms... an $800 weekend is not in the cards for me either.  Looks like a great place though Jeff...  if you come across anything else, let us know.

I have always liked the Peaks of Otter, near Bedford. Has anyone else stayed at PoO?

Yeah...  I gotta say that $60ish/night for both of us is looking a little better than $100ish/night/person!  While having food provided is great, I'm not against packing my own sandwiches for lunch!   icon_smile  $400+ is just not in my budget right now.   022  (Unless I skip a payment on the MINI...  Don't think the bank would be too happy though!)

I can't wait until November!!!!!

Not sure if that Days Inn is anywhere near our destination, but I like those prices better too.  Don't worry Ben will take care of us.  He will investigate until he comes up with somewhere to please all.  His success rate on these adventures are 100%  icon_razz  Can't wait either  038

I love that area. Anywhere up there is nice. We stayed in Lexington a few years ago. I think it was a Hampton Inn called the Col Alton. It was basically a 1800's farm house and they built the hotel next to it. You could even stay in the old house, which also served as the office/lobby. It was pricey though, so it would be out for this outing, but the Lexington area is absolutely beautiful!

Here's that one, not as bad as I expected:

Where ever it is, count me in!

Are you sure you don't want to use the Acorn Inn.  It's the inn that Neal has used for numerous trips and the one that we suggested doing a summer trip to.

The inn has 10 rooms and we would reserve the entire inn at approx. $135 p/room p/couple for the entire weekend.  This includes a breakfast of homemade breads, muffins & cobbler, yummy!

Here is their website: http://www.acorninn.com/accommodations.shtml

I think Laurie had emailed them and pets aren't allowed in the inn but the are allowed in the seperate cabin or the main house.

Here's more info and pics: http://www.hrmini.com/component/option,com_smf/Itemid,32/topic,2121.0/

I have also stayed at the Hampton Inn, Col Alton in Lexington. The old main house is great and it is within walking distance of Stonewall Jackson's grave. Not that the he will be participating in the fall colors tour (lol)!
