Long story but...  Work made me upgrade to a newer laptop and my databases won't work on Access 2003.  icon_eek  I know the cure but I can't remember exactly how it's done.  It's not linking the tables...  It's something about libraries under MS Visual Basic or something.  Help?  *begs*  Our IT guy is on vacation until Tuesday and I have work backing up!  GAH!  119 091 093 101

Your database is more than likely in an older format and has to be converted.  Access 2000 and 2002 databases should open right up in Access 2003.  Older Access 97 files must be converted.  You should be able to at least open the old file(s) in Access 2003 and save them in the new format.  Microsoft mentions compiling the database before you convert it to help alleviate errors.  When you open the old database file,  you should see a small arrow on the right side of the <Open> button.  There should be an option that says "Open/Convert."

There are several database conversion programs available on the Internet, and some are offered for free.  Many of them only offer converting between two database types.  The other option is to export the data from the old database to a new one using an ODBC driver.  Here is a link that explains how ODBC works:  www.tech-faq.com/odbc.shtml

Thanks JJF.  Our IT guy came and fixed it.  Part of the problem was that a DAO 3.5 reference was missing so I had to change it to DAO 3.6  It still threw about 153086538906153 errors besides that though...

Yes, I recall that patch.  I kinda forgot about it, as I have not dealt with converting data in awhile.  When I worked at Eastern State Hospital (yes work, not patient :P), it was used between Access and FoxPro.

Our IT guy fixed it and, as it turns out, everything was in Access 97 form.  It worked within Access 2000 but threw tons of errors in Access 2003.  102  I hate Microsloth...

Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents can be easily read with newer versions of Office.  It's Access that had major changes.  That, in part, comes from various advances in database technology.  For the other programs, it's just new bells and whistles.
