Does anyone here know this seller?  http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Mini-Mini-Cooper-Cooper-1977-Austin-Mini-1000-Cooper_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ107008QQihZ020QQitemZ300253814399QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW

I've been teasing the Hubby that it would fit in the garage if I sell his walking/jogging machine.  Heck, I think it would fit on the front sidewalk for parking.  I WANT IT!!!  It even matches Shelby Jr.

Can anyone here tell me anything about this seller or car?  Please!!!!  Shelby Jr. wants a older twin, maybe. 023

Very nice but if I was going to buy a classic, I'd want a right hand drive.  I mean, if you're going to be different, then be different!  icon_mrgreen

The right hand drive is no biggie with me.

Heck, I've already got the being different thing down to a tee. 045

I just liked the idea that it's close for pickup, the color I would like, runs, and really looks to be in excellent condition. 023

I would be careful with that Mini because of the fact they claim 1000 miles on a rebuilt motor and 100% body refurb, but the engine bay looks a bit rough for "new" bits.  I would definately find out who the reputable Mini specialist that did the repairs was as well as look at it before you buy.  Also there are no such things as Cooper GT wheels, those are aftermarket GBs.  15K is a bit steep I think, but I haven't seen it in person.  Also, make sure you ask for the receipts for the over 15K in resto work, for that much it should be immaculate in and out.

Thanks for the considerations.  The Hubby and I have been discussing that very subject.  I blow up the pics of the engine compartment and had various conversions with the Hubby.  If an engine is rebulilt why in the world would you leave it so ruff looking.  I'd have had that engine sparkling and painted before putting it back in.  I wasn't even planning on close to the $15,000 Buy It Now price.  The reserve hasn't been met thus far.

I was hoping with it being so close to our area that someone here might know something about it.  It's been listed before, surely because the reserve was not met.  I figured if it wasn't met this time around maybe they'd be willing to deal a bit.  The Hubby doesn't see where $15,000 to restore it was put.  Many questions.  Just fishing for now.

No worries, I would just hate to see someone get stuck with someone else shortcuts.

Don't know that one or the seller, but I this one is being sold by a good guy named Herman, also in Virginia.  It's not a 1966 car as it says on the paperwork, but it looks nice in the pics.

Now that is a nice example of a Mini!!  I would definately investigate that one and if TJ knows the seller than it is certainly a good one.  JMHO!

If it's Japanese spec, why is it left hand drive? I thought the Japanese used right hand drive?

I think the Japanese spec cars were built as RHD.  It is easy to switch from RHD to LHD, a lot of the parts are interchangeable.  Need a steering rack and maybe some new brake line.  There are some differences in the pedal boxes, but I'm pretty sure they can be used on the wrong side from which they were made.  All the holes are there for things like the master cylinders and steering column to the rack.

The add doesn't say anything about it either way.  Of course it also says the car is a 1960.

It is definately a 90ish Mini that used a japanese chassis number to make it legal in the states, since a car has to be 25 years or older to import.  It looks as though it has always been a lefty, probably from mainland Europe.  These gray market cars are all over the place, in fact I haven't seen an actual 60/70 model Mini since last years GWR  002 .

Thoughts

you can decide to rebuild the engine and not redo the entire engine compartment...wanna ask me how I thought of that?

If the engine craps out and you need to do a short block replacement just to get it running you may decide not to wait for new paint.....

A cursory scan of the provided pics tells me two things....

Dash vents?  This Ain't a 60's spec!!!!!

I see rust bubbles around the wheel lips on a couple of pictures.  Some may think a little sanding...a little filler...a spray can or two.  I know this led me to welding classes, auto body classes (panel replacement in adult education) & buying a welder....  Don't forget, Mini's were rusting severely b4 they left the assembly line.....

Rust free Mini?   016

Wow, you folks have provided many points to consider seriously before purchasing an older Mini.

Hubby use to love taking a piece on junk and making it a major eye catcher, engine wise followed by everything else.  He's bought back a 1971 Ford Bronco that we drove around for a few years and sold for a really sweet price.  He also tore into a 1978 Jeep CJ7.  It needed to stayed in the junk yard, but he finished it off with a 360 CID, rebuilt front/rear axles, transmission, all body work, all new wiring, installed lockers, 33" BF Goodrich all terrians, and I think you get the picture.  It was one of the most awesome built for the mountains and everything else that the Tidewater 4x4 club had for quite sometime.  It was a blast for many years.

So I'm wondering, is the Hubby ready and willing to play with a Mini?  Set for a track would surely catch his eye, but just for show I'm not willing to bet on.

Thanks for giving me some things to consider before jumping into this. 023
