I went racing at Summit Point Labor Day weekend and ended up bending the race car pretty bad. On the third lap of qualifying I spun off the track in a high speed turn. I'm thinking I didn't have enough heat in the tires plus there was some rough pavement in the turn. What ever the cause the rear end stepped out and did one of those slow easy spins to the inside. The grass was still wet so once I left the track there was no more slowing down. At the point I hit they had a single layer of tire wall then a Jersey wall behind it. I hit hard enough to tip over 2 sections of Jersey wall. We estimate I was going between 70 and 80 mph at impact.
To make a long story short the car is totaled. It bend the unibody enough to make it not worth repairing. All of the safety equipment did what it was supposed to do and I didn't receive any serious injuries. I wrenched my left knee and bruised a few ribs but otherwise I'm uninjured. Well besides my pride.
The work begins again. A friend of mine has a 510 race car like mine. He blew a motor last year and had disassembled his car for some freshening up and other repaires. We are going to combine the two cars to make one. We'll take all the good race stuff and engine out of my car and put it in his tub then build him a new tub over the winter. The next major race is the last weekend of October. We have a month and a half to assemble a race car. I think we can make it but it's going to be tight. Keep you fingers crossed.
