093 Well I have only had my Mini for two months and I got a ticket today.  074 Get this!!!! 51 in a 45 zone!!!!! When the cop told me, I started twitching 092  096!!! I have a really long fuze but I have to admit. I was ballistic. I asked the guy if he had confused me with the ten cars that were flying by me, and offered him the card of my eye Doctor. After he asked me several questions about the car I reassured the gentleman that one day when he grew up that he too could afford such a piece of fine automotive craftmanship. I somehow managed to do this with a smile and a have a nice day! I'm almost a little sad that my first ticket wasn't for something much much worse.

Ah, you weren't the only MINI pulled over today. My wife got pulled over while heading to work in her 02 LY MCS at approximately 5:15 AM this morning in our lovely town of Poquoson. Policeman said she failed to stop at a red light, she said it was green changing to yellow. As of now she plans on challenging it in court. Poquoson cops - what else do they have to do!

State trooper got me in Glouscter county doing 71 in a 55 back in July - thankfully the ticket said 70 so I didn't have to go to court.  Hey can we write off our contibutions to the state trooper funds?

Forrest, sorry to hear that you rec'd a CERTIFICATE OF ACHIEVEMENT today.  077

Well, I know many Mini owners are against radar detectors but...

They give you that little bit of warning needed to slow down to avoid a possible ticket.  It doesn't 018 give you permission to break the law 065 and get away with it.  It's nice for those times you're not paying attention and going with the flow, when the flow is speeding and you could get a ticket.

Yes 045 they are illegal in Virginia. (In fact legal everywhere else but here and the Washington DC area, go figure).  For what it's worth, if you're stopped for it the ticket is only $100.  They don't  009 take your detector as they once did, but can in some cases.  If taken you do get it back.  So how much are speeding tickets now days?  Court cost?  Time off work?  Headache in a half you endure from the guilt of getting the ticket in the first place?

That being said, mine in not obvious and has surely saved me a handful of times just driving around town with the speed of everyone around me.  Being a  Chilli red, different looking little car, want to bet who would got the ticket?

Only 6MPH over and they snagged you?  icon_rolleyes  Lightweight!  Try 80/55  093 076 when you really aren't trying to do 80 in a 55!  Bastages...

May I recommend the Beltronics STI Driver?  Mine sure made the drive to Florida and back a lot less stressful than it could have been.  I have to go see what kind of contribution I get to make for our beloved politicians to pp away next week.  Wish me luck!  090

I didn't know we had another Poquoson MINI! Cool! If you think the Bull Island Safety Brigade has nothing to do now, you should have been growing up down here in the 70. You know, back before we had even ONE stop light, let along the metropolis we have now. Oh, and have the chief of police as a cousin! Heck, if I got in trouble, my mom usually knew it before me, and that was before scanners!

As far as tickets go, Tyler had a 80 in a 60 heading to NJ from Charlotte last fall. And of course, it was in VA. As a rule, I don't speed, but I do run with the crowds, so it's easy to get caught up in the pack. I had a state trooper friend that I once asked "who do you pick out in a crowd"? He said he pulls the SPORTS car or the RED car. And if there's a RED SPORTS car, you know it's them!

If you feel it is the principal of the matter, get your speedo calibrated.  Analog speedometers can be off by as much as 3 MPH.  If yours is off by as much, the judge will probably throw it out.  I had a jerk Newport News cop get me for 50/45, and he had to make it a point that I past a marked police car.  What an ego!  I had my speedo calibrated (in my '86 Monte Carlo SS), and it was off by 3 MPH.  The judge threw it out, too.  Last I knew, the place all cops around here go for their calibration is Guaranteed Auto at 58th and Warwick.

Well as a younger man, i was tossed into Portsmouth lockup over night for..."Reckless Driving"  now wait let me explain...  i drive like an Italian... AGGRESSIVE!  After high school i racked up a ticket count in the 8 - 10 range for speed violations and reckless driving.  something i have payed for.  but on this occasion i was coming back from lunch on colley ave and returning thru the mid-town to go to the Portsmouth shipyards. i turned a corner on a green light and was cruising at the speed limit to find a cruiser behind me...  i pulled over and was interrogated by a police officer for my reckless manner of driving.  I was explain that i had squealed my tires in my 02 Elantra.  I asked the officer if he was mistaken because i was just on my way back to work...  no rush no fuss.  he asked me if i needed to have this conversation at the Police station as another cruiser pulled up.  3 weeks later at the court appearance with my CPO with me i asked the judge for driving school to which the judge laughed and read my previous tickets back to me tickets that spanned 8 years and said do you really thing that your driving will improve with a class...  "don't respond to that Mr. May, i doubt that you are the type of person who learns anything so lets see what a night in my jail will teach you... 10 days in jail with 9 suspended 800$ fine and a 3 months suspension on your license."  I now avoid Portsmouth at all costs!  but i promise you my tires never squealed! the one time i was in the wrong place at the wrong time!

Dale - Our Poquoson policeman was again parked in the Zooms parking lot this morning monitoring the traffic light. He parks on the backside along the fence between Zooms and the house. We're coming out of Little Florida turning left onto Wythe Creek and it seems to be a quick changing left green turn arrow, yellow, to red signal.

Feel for you for your 70's experiences. Any relatives on the force now?

He was surely enjoying his morning coffee and donut while watching the traffic.  045

---------------------------

As for police and some of their stories.  I like to think that most policemen are out there doing their job, correctly.  If only takes dealing with that one bad apple to sway your opinion about our men and women in blue.  The Hubby had to get that one bad apple, state trooper at that, a few years back. Very long story, but the policeman told one hugely exaggerated lie in court.  I was there to witness it and it took absolutely everything in me not to go for his throat right there in front of the judge.  I was floored that a law enforcement officier did this.  I lost so much respect for the men in blue after this.  I try to assure myself that this was only one cop gone bad for whatever reason, but I still burn over it at times.

Actually, that was originally a Dunkin Donuts several years ago. They closed up and the place became several other entities over the years. Not sure why Dunkin went back in there. Who knows.

As for the Poquoson cops, I wish they'd watch the Bull Island expressway in front from Poq ave and Poquoson Auto Repair. Some idiots just don't understand the meaning of 35 MPH! But no, they'd rather get dumb stuff like your situation.

Yeah, that's a raceway to get from the 2-lane to single lane part of the road. Whenever I'm driving it I'm looking in my passengers side mirror to see who may be trying to cut me off before we get to where the right lane ends. I've also seen cops occasionally parked in the dentists office across from Poquoson Auto Repair.
