WAVY TV 10 News Story

Kurt Beach was a young rookie policeman in 1988 when he arrived ‘on the scene’ to find a 9-month old baby in crisis and in need of resuscitation.

In 1988, there were no required safety kits for emergency responders.

The baby was a Spina Bifida patient at home who had stopped breathing.  Her tracheotomy tube was blocked.  To clear her airways for CPR and to try to save her life, Kurt came into direct contact with blood and fluids.

Later, in 1995, Kurt learned that the baby he tried to save had Hepatitis C, which had resulted from some previous blood transfusions she had received.

In 1988, blood was not screened for Hepatitis C so the blood supply was not nearly as safe as it is today. Screening for the virus did not start until 1990-1992.

Today, Kurt is in desperate need of a living or deceased liver donor.

Thanks Steve.  We want to head out there too.  Not sure what day, but I think Sunday's BBQ sounds fun.  Terry saw this today looking at the 70's Kecoughtan High School Warrior site - http://warriortown.com/3/miscellaneous5.htm
Terry was Class of 73 and Kurt was Class of 75 and wish he had seen it sooner so we could have posted it before today.  Let us know what time you feel like BBQ and we'll try to catch up with you.  icon_razz

For fun if you scroll down to the Zs (yearbook page 209) at this link you can catch a glimpse of Obe himself  also on yearbook page 177 I spy ODDKIN  icon_cool

We're gonna be heading through Smithfield on Sunday.  Gotta get some seat time in the motorcycles.  We will have to swing by for some BBQ!   023

We're not 100% sure what time we'll be through there.  We'd like to hit it on our way home after our day ride.  It will probably between 3-4pm.  You guys can give us a call when you get up there if you like(pm if you need my #).  If we don't answer it's because we're still out on the bikes.  (gotta log some seat time...we're planning on doing an ironbutt ride in the summer! 1000 miles in 24 hrs.  107)

Message from facebook:

"Wendy, they will only have 100 tickets at the door so call Sonja at 238-2256 and tell her you are coming out of town to see Kurt and please save you however many tickets you need."

If you plan on going to the picnic give Sonja a call at 238-2256.

Hey Warped

I saw Tug behind CF this morning. What's the matter?

By the way, the wheels look good.

He was running fine but when he idled at stop lights for even 30 seconds, he would stop producing heat.   icon_frown  I thought that he was low on coolant but that wasn't the case.  He's also getting his interior detailed.  icon_mrgreen  Thanks for the compliment on the rims, I've been very pleased with them.
