Will post pics later, but I'd like to get recommendations for non-dealer repair shops that have experience working on BMW & MINI?

BMW has 100K+ miles on it and is starting to have some issues.

Thanks!

I have decided Tyler's yellow car will be going to Atlantic Autowerks. Terry Baker and Bob Brochu are local autocrossers nad have a very well established business. Not to mention they're great guys. Here's their site:

I second Atlantic - just had the car inspected there.  Mentioned HR Mini and I got a discount.  If you refer someone there they give you another discount. Very nice to women and don't try to take advantage due to being a female.

Glad to know they're treating us MINI owners right! I never in a million years would think Terry and Bob would do anything less. They really are great guys. Dang, that sounds mushy.

Terry Baker is not only a long time local autocrosser, but he's also experienced competing at the national level in his MINI, at the year-end "SCCA Solo 2 National Championships", held each year in Topeka, Kansas. He knows how to service, tune and power tune MINI's and BMW's with the best of them.

For BMW's he used to be service manager at the old Atlantic BMW which was on Laskin Road in Virginia Beach, before the business was closed down, and the local BMW franchise went to CF. While he was at Atlantic BMW, he and the company president, Jim Atwell competed in the "One Lap of America" in a 5 series Bimmer, back in the mid-eighties. I fondly remember one year when the event made a pit stop at the dealership, causing me to play hooky from work that afternoon to go over and watch the cars come and go, while mingling with the drivers and crews .... very cool time indeed.

I've had BMW's serviced by Terry in the past, and would not heistate to have my MINI serviced by him at some time in the future, if and when the need should ever arrise.

These are the folks that Steph and I use for our cars.  They replaced the engine in the black car after Checkered Flag "serviced" the car a while back.

Here here on Atlantic Autowerks! Terry and Bob are great! I have taken my car there for different issues and if they could not help me they would send me to someone that could. They really are a great bunch of guys with a good reputation. I would not hesitate to take my car to them.

I'm guessing this isn't a good thing...anyone care to give a diagnosis?

There's a LOT of thick, nasty sludge here:

Lastly, oil is accumulating in these areas, too:
