I know it's really early for this but we were wondering who was going to take the reins and plan this event for 2009.  Any volunteers?  If not, Neal & I can start working on the details.   112

We absolutely don't want to step on anyones toes (Ben or Don).  So if you have a desire to plan the event please speak up.  023

I would be more than glad to give someone a hand. I think I'm putting off the "tour of the Bay" until the fall also. I'm still planning on doing a Gimmick Rally just for the MINI community later on as well. I also have a plan on something bigger for 2010, with a smaller version this year. But back to the Fall colors run, I'll help anybody do anything.

Early enough for this thread??    017

Having no mini to roll in anymore, I don't have much business organizing anything.  Have at it folks.

What the heck ever Ben!!!  075  You have to be involved.  It just wouldn't be the same without you!!

My question was more so gauged towards the hotel.  I really would like the club to go to The Acorn.  I was just trying to an idea of when so I could see if it is available.  And last year Wendy organized the event and I didn't want her to have to organize it again if she didn't want to.  023

Anyway, if you're toes feel steeped on, then I'm sorry.   icon_sad

I hope it's at a time when we can make it this year! We've wanted to go in the past but never could because of conflicts.

It's never too early to start planning anything! What dates has the FCR been in the past. Sorry, can't remember and a bit too tired to search.....

According to the fall foliage maps, it looks like we need to go sometime between the end of October and mid-November.

How does everyone feel about The Acorn Inn?  If they are available.  I will try to call tonight and see what weekends they have available.  Please note that we will have to pre-pay.

Here is their website:  The Acorn Inn

Sounds great to us. We've been by there a few years ago when visiting some friends in Nelson County.

Neal has stayed there a bunch of times and Andria & I were there last summer.

One really nice thing is that there is a huge backyard with a patio & deck area, tables & chairs and a grill.  Plus there is croquet and outdoors games to play.  So we can have a cookout on Saturday night after hitting the roads all day.  There is a small kitchen area with a full size fridge so we'll have plenty of room to store perishables.

How we did it last year with our group of friends was: everyone brought snacks and goodies, and it was all put on a table in the common area for everyone to share.  Then the cookout was BYOB(eef).  I was thinking for us we could hit a local grocer after our adventures on Saturday and everyone could buy their own meat.  We could take up a collection for side items like potato salad, baked beans, macaroni salad, etc.

And of course, breakfast is included in our stay. 023

That's just some ideas we have.

While it does look very interesting, I was thinking the same thing.

Now at the same time, not having made a Fall Colors run before, I have no real idea how many people made the run last year?

Doesn't look like it holds a lot of people!?!?!

That is just the inn.  And last year, 08: we had 12 couples / singles come.  The year before, 07:...not sure but I think is was a little over half of that. And 06: we had 10

The Inn has 10 bedrooms, so it can sleep 10 couples for $55 p/night (single) or $65 p/night (double)
The Cottage can sleep 5 and runs $125 p/night (double) + $20 for each extra person over 12 and you can have pets in the cottage
The Farmhouse has 2 rooms so it can sleep 2 couples for $85 p/night (double).

So total (not including kids that may bunk up in rooms with their parents) The Acorn can hold approx. 14 couples.  I was thinking that two couples that are close and have pets could share The Cottage.

And just in case you're wondering....we can reserve the entire b&b for just our group.  So we'll have the whole place to ourselves!

The whole place all to our selves? Do they know what they are getting into???

Seriously, that might work.

Oh it can't be any worse than the groups Neal has taken there.  Those BMW bike guys are hell on wheels....seriously!  And his family & friends aren't much better!  044 044  His brother-in-law insists each year on playing croquet in his underwear.  icon_eek  Now that's a site to see.  091

And the owners Kathy & Martin always hang out in the evening and chat with everyone and they are a blast.  Really, really great sense of humor on those two! Both are world travels, Martin is a lifelong cyclist and Kathy is a photographer.  The Inn is decorated with her photos and art work that they've collected from their journeys.  They have tons of stories to share.

Last time we were there, we talked to them about bringing the MINI group up and they were really excited to host our Fall Color's Run and to see everyone's MINI's. 023

This sound great. How far out do we need to plan to reserve the hold place?
