I'm looking at heading down to the Winston-Salem area next weekend to make a run with the Tar Heel gang. Gonna head down Saturday afternoon and spend the night somewhere or maybe just run down real early Sunday morning. Anyone else wanna consider this? The Tar Heel group knows how to do a run! I got home around 7 last night after going down to the Winston-Salem area for their Bullfrog run. It seems Bullfrog was one of their members who had passed away from Lymphoma. He apparently loved a certain patch of twisties otherwise known as Route 66 and the area around Hanging Rock State Park, which is a pretty nice little place by itself. The weather couldn't have been nicer when 27 MINI's, including Tyler who came up from Charlotte to join me, headed to the curves. Now it's been many years since I was on the Dragon, but rt. 66 in NC is pretty darn twisty, so this was kinda like a tune up for later in the month. We passed several groups of motorcyclists also enjoying the roadways. We made it up to Hanging Rock State Park in about 30 minutes and toured a couple of the parking areas, giving the park attendees a rolling MINI car show. Watching the people point and smile almost made the trip worthwhile. We then headed back out made a loop north and headed back down 66. After about 70 miles I was fairly tired, thankfully the run ended at a place called Dairi-O. Basically a Dairy Queen kinda place. But I'm telling ya, they are the epitome of efficiency. They fed about 50 of us in record time and they were already busy from the Sunday Church crowd. Jamestown Pie Company could learn something from this joint! If y'all have an open weekend anytime Tar Heel has an event, I'd suggest you make an effort to hook up with them.

Here's the route we took

Ok, so this is an old thread, from prior years .. but .. I liked the write up and am hoping perhaps it will entice a few of you to join up this weekend!

In sifting through unrelated posts I've gleaned that Dale and Erika are planning to come to NC for this drive this weekend?

Anybody else? I'm still undecided between Bullfrog Run and the BMW/MINI event at VIR (made more enticing by noticing the VDCA Vintage Driver’s Club of America Wild Hare Run happening this weekend) but a contingent of my HR brethren heading down might be the swing factor ..

Supposed to be upper 70's and sunny!!  icon_lol

See HR MINI event calendar for April 9th for details or this thread on the Tar Heel MINI site:

I originally had to work Saturday, ut that got freed up. I just might head on down Friday evening for the run. It really is a good time. Anyone on the fence about it should try to make it. You won't meet a better bunch of MINI owners outside of the HR area than these folks!

There's a pretty decent response from the Tar Heeler's who plan to attend, including a lot of new faces .. there are usually 2 "passes" .. one at the usual spirited pace and then a 2nd run for those who are a little less sane .. ooops, did I say that? Let's just say I may ride shotgun on that one as my non-S would surely hold everyone up ... :-)

Dale .. there is a contingent who plan to spend Friday night in W/S .. mjsteelega (new) and another couple who live in the area who are planning to get together for dinner .. check the Tar Heel thread if interested (I suggested Village Tavern but not sure if someone has another idea .. I'm leaning towards doing this drive rather than VIR since I've got no kiddos with me this weekend, but not sure if I'll spend Friday night or not (it would make more sense for me to spend Saturday night as I have to be at GSBO airport on Sunday afternoon and that's a lot of round trips .. )

Who else??

(Dale if you can add the Tar Heel thread or this one to the calendar event for Bullfrog since there isn't a separate thread for it, anyone on the fence and checking the calendar could get more details .. )

(PS I like Tar Heel forum where *anyone* has admin to the calendar .. after all, if you plan it, they will come, right? but gotta be able to post it when you plan it .. !)
