We will be sure that your shirts get picked up Dale, no worries. Sorry to hear that you won't be going ! I'm guessing that there may be quite a few cancellations at Fontana now that it seems that the 'Dragon" will still be closed down during the MOTD event. There are still plenty of great driving roads in that area, but I'll bet a lot of people won't be coming this year due the road closure. I'd probably be backing out myself if it weren't for all the venders that have comitted to being there. It's a GREAT oppertunity to have some mods done and I may want to get some work done again this year. Had my Supercharger pulley done there last year by Dan from Grassroots Garage. I now just need to decide what I might want to have done and make sure that I have the funds to cover it

Assuming the Dragon portion of road is closed ( I still have my fingers crossed it will not be) I'm still going. The roads in that area are so well banked and in such perfect driving condition they are a joy to drive. There are curvies in every single direction to explore. Also a few cool day trips like Pigeon Forge, Biltmore, Indian Reservation and the Skyway. There are train rides, jet boat rides, rides across the forest on wires. I wonder if the highway allows for some driving, then turning around? Or if they just close it straight through. We mostly drive it and turn around to drive it the other direction. It is a big tourist draw and I am sure the locals are complaining at their loss of revenue.

well, after talking to Brad at Deals Gap today, looks like things might be going our way!!! Folks traveling fromt the north or West won't be able to get to Fontana via US126. BUT...TN officials are supposedly gonna move the barricade from the State Line back to the rockslide area, thus allowing folks to from NC to drive the Dragon, turn around and come back. Hopefully this will be done in less that a week!!!!!

Been talking to Dan here at Grassroots Garage about that. He said the issue has been getting NC police and rescue coverage in Tennessee, as the border is only about a mile from Deal's Gap. Apparently, an agreement between the governors is in the works. Just keep checking NAM and the other links I posted.

Looks like great news folks Update posted on the Deals Gap home page states that the Dragon WILL BE OPEN beginning on Monday the 12th. at 8am. The road will only be open from 8am till 8pm, and reading between the lines it looks like there will be a serious law enforcement effort in place to keep everyone in check, (safe). It also looks like the road will only be open for vehicles entering from the NC side . It seems that the biggest issue involved in getting the road opened from NC to the rock slide area has been EMS access. Now that an agreement is in place and the road will be open, be sure to be on good behavior while on the road. I think this is great news for the MOTD event, and only hope that all groups that are going to be down there between next Monday morning and the beginning of the MOTD event are safe and behave on the road so the NC and Tenn. officials do not have any reason to change their minds and close the road until all the work in the rock slide area is completed. Because of the fact that the Dragon would probably be closed during this years event, the Deals Gap and US-129 web sites have posted quite a few routes and maps of other fun roads that are in the area that do not include the 11 miles of the Dragon. Check some these roads and maps out, as the Dragon is probably going to be a little more congested than usual this year because of the u-turn that will be required prior to reaching the rock slide/construction area.
