For those that do not know the story of Lt. Kurt Beach who was in need of a liver donor:

This career officer with Smithfield Virginia Police Department has had to carry the burden of health and sickness throughout his career. He first joined the police force in 1988 after graduating from Tidewater Academy of Criminal Justice. Shortly after graduation Lieutenant Beach attempted to resuscitate an infant but it wasn't until seven years later that he discovered he had contracted Hepatitis C. Even with this difficult diagnosis he continued his training and has been with the same Police Department for 20 years and is still on active status in spite of being on medical leave. His training includes Crime Scene Investigation and Hostage Negotiation School with the FBI, as well as Basic Narcotics with the DEA. He later entered the Institute for Leadership at Virginia Tech. Chief Mark Marshall describes Lieutenant Beach's character as a class act. The Chief went on to say that Lieutenant Beach has taken his career in Law Enforcement as more than just a job , maybe even a calling in the way he is committed to serve the citizens of Smithfield.

Lt. Kurt Beach finally received a donor liver on April 13, 2009 thanks to an anonymous donor.
