Just thought I'd share some pics of my most recent mod. The dash is burled wood, the stereo is new and relocated from the lower left side of the dash. The speaker pods are from a company in England. I also have a set of 6x9 speakers under the rear seat as well. It's nice to be able to enjoy the sounds with the windows down and 60+mph winds blowing in as well.

The dash looks great John, but doesn't that speaker get in your way?

I found the steering wheel on EBay. Not sure what brand it is, but it feels good in my hands and looks way cool to what was there before.

My new qeust has begun now. I'm currently looking into a 2.2 liter SOHC V-Tec Honda motor. I hope to retain the original front end sheet metal. However, a complete removeable nose will no doubt be needed to access everything for future maintenance.

I'm waiting for word from Norman at Superfast minis to see if this is doable or not, fingers crossed!!!!!!

That really looks cool!!   109   icon_cool

I understand the desire to do something different with the motor.  Maybe consider one of the S motors from the '02-'06 Minis?  My friend recently changed my oil pan gasket, and he said the inside of my engine looks brand new (i.e. well maintained).  That's with 105K miles!  Of course, the supercharger and the intake/intercooler may require some refabrication/modification for them to fit in a Classic Mini.

Unless I missed something along the way, current technology only has front sub frames designed for the Honda SOHC and DOHC V-tec engines. Now if someone with the skills were to create a subframe that would accept a MINI S motor with the same ease, yours truly would have to give that serious consideration also.

Keep in mind, a 1.6 DOHC V-Tec motor, given the right collection of steroids, can easily produce over 200 BHP and run all day long without a hitch. The reliability factor with these motors is just outstanding to say the least. Then again, with that much power in a 1200 lb car, I seriously believe drivability would become an issue at some point.

I would like to keep it simple and have 100 BHP, maybe just a bit more, but nothing over 150 is really needed, if Ya know what I mean. Consider the power to wieght ratio and the classic would probably be giving the new MINI  S some serious trouble in the quarter mile runs.

I'm one of "those" people that don't own a MINI!

Got an up close and personal look at a K20 powered Mini wagon last weekend.

I will eventually finangle (sp?) a ride in that beast.  The owner wrote a check to superfastminis.com.  The engineering looks cool.  The overall package is very slick.  With the wagon/van body the extended front it not nearly as obnoxious as it is with a saloon body style.

I bet the thing is scary fast.

Don't think I would want it as my only Mini though - it is more of a hot rod than a Mini in my opinion.  Plus I can't afford to just write a check that large.

Learn something new every day.  I did not know the subframes were compatible with the Honda VTec motor.  That makes more sense.  Since you mentioned HP-to-weight, the extra weight of the motor would probably help you with traction.

From what i get on the VTEC forums, they get sub 4 second 0 - 62 mph, and over 40 mpg. 5 gears and an fuel injected electronic ignition.  Weither you put a D motor with 100 hp or you go with an Honda K20 Type R (240hp) motor, its a wicked alteration and it makes a reliable daily or tuned AutoXer for anyone, sure the prices are steep, but you cant beat the prices for the motor and subframe kits...  i have looked i promise you!

Of if you are crazy like me and Shaun...  AWD
