Yeah, I know. It was reasonably clean until Friday afternoon. I was mentoring a new instructor candidate and was told to see how he reacted in a stressful stituation. So I spun it doing about 85. He failed.

Definitely looks like fun.  More of a real track setup and not just cones.   023

I hope he didn't get your seat wet!

It was a real track. Carolina Motorsport Park last weekend. It's a 2 1/4 mile race track. It's kind of a technical track meaning that most of the turns lead into another turn that leads into another turn. If you make a mistake on the first turn of the sequence your out of place for the next few turns and can't gather it back up until the next straight. Every track should have at least one "Big Brass Ones" corner. A turn where it takes testicular fortitude to get through there really fast. The one at CMP is the kink on the back straight. With my low hp "Justa" I can take it at 100 mph (because car won't get there any faster) flat to the floor and not have to worry about it but with any more hp things get a little dicey. Also ask Lelane what happens when you lift off the gas there. It gets real ugly, real quick. That's why I like those types of turns.

The MINI has Pleather seats so thay are easy to clean, the seat in my race car on the other hand does seem to have a vertical crease in the center running inline with the car.

Roy...Nice job slicin' and dicin' past all the full bodied Bimmers. That's what all the photo's indicate, so let's just keep it that way.

I'd like to know what you've done to the Justa in the way of tires, suspension, brakes, intake, exhaust etc to be as competitive as you can, or is it totally run-what-you-brung bone stock?

I'm one of "those" people that don't own a MINI!

I think Roy's MINI is stock except for the balls feature where he chose the extra large brass option.

As far as performance mods I've put a shorter radio antenna on to cut down on wind drag, took the valve stem caps off the wheels to reduce weight and it has the clear stick on lens covers on the head lights to help with laminer air flow. Other than that it's bone stock.

For the track I do use full race brake pads on the front. I'm running Hawk Blues right now. For tires I usually run Kuhmo 710 R-compound tires but I got a used set of Toyo RA1's for cheap so that's what I'm wearing out right now.

This was a High Performance Driver Education event and not actual racing. But it's hard to tell the difference when us instructors get out on track. We play rather hard.

There is a saying in the paddock - "We road race because other sports only require one ball".
