First post so just thought I would say hello to everyone. Just picked up my oxygen blue MINI back on 6/20. I had been looking for a new Camaro or Shelby GT 500 to replace my Z 06 Vette so of course I bought a almost no option MINI instead. Talk about an impulse buy! I decided to retire my Z 06 from daily driver duty and keep it and give the MINI a try. Havent had much time with it yet. Just got out of the shop and has to go back in again. I knew they were not rated high on quality when I got it and having owned Austin Healy's and MG's I guess I can live with the issues. I do wonder if the electricals are made by Lucus though! My drivers map light wont turn off and the dealer fix so far is to pull the bulb. Parts are coming from Germany though so we will see.

Did get a chance to go out and play in the rain today. I have to say this thing is FUN! think I will go out again in a little while and play with it some more. I used to autocross a AH Sprite that I had a Fiat Spyder DOHC engine stuffed into. But that was back in to early 80's. Might have to take this one out one day.

Anyway nice to meet everyone!

Oh and here is my MINI. I am leaning towards bonnet stripes. Maybe Checkerboard!  003

Welcome to the group.  We are a band of MINI lovers who get together on a whim (sometimes we are more organized) to chat up new friends,  compare car modifications, sometimes even compare mileage.  You never know what you are going to see or talk about when we meet.  One of my very favorite runs of the year is coming up.  Cooper vineyards.  We make a day of it traveling to Richmond, then a spirited test of cornering on back roads to the vineyard.

This year we are considering an add on leg to the mountains for a stay over.  The event is July 18.  Check out this link for all the information.

Keep an eye on the calendar.  We have little meet and greets all over the Hampton Roads area.  We also have a motto, "If you plan it, we will come"  so don't be shy about announcing a place and time you particularly like.  We have no rules or dues, we just gather for social companionship and to give our MINIs some excercise.

Hey, welcome aboard! Good to have ya. One of the neatest things about a MINI is when you buy one, it comes with friends! Make sure you wave at every MINI owner you see. If they don't wave back, wave harder! I really like Oxy Blue, it looks great with a black roof.

Try to make some of our events coming up. I think we have some very interesting ones on the horizon. Connecting with other MINI owners is the best way to stay informed on upkeep and modifications to your car. Besides, we love helping other people spend their money.

It also looks like you're an autocrosser, we have a good group of autocrossers locally, including myself and son Tyler, if he ever comes home from Florida or school. Hope to meet up with you soon. 023

Oh yeah, you were also thinking about stripes.  Wait to see the variations some of our members have.  Then decide on your own.  We can even recommend people to do them for you.

Thanks for the welcome. I had some dings in the car on delivery that had to be fixed. The weird problem with the map light and the thing makes a high pitched whine that increases with RPM. I was told it was normal engine noise. I started a couple others on the sales lot and sure enough they did the same thing. I swear it sounds like a alternator or water pump bearing to me...oh well the warranty is my friend.

And yes it is just a bit different than the Z 06. I have never driven a FWD car before. So that alone is taking some getting used to. Other than that it seems to handle well and has more power than I thought a " justa " Cooper would have. All my other cars are old muscle cars, and the yellow Vette so pulling up in the MINI is a shocker to my friends. I dont think they saw this one coming!  003

Welcome to the Mini gang.  I too am an old muscle car buff, having owned two SS Monte Carlos and an '88 IROC-Z Camaro.  Currently working on a new engine for a '94 Z-28 I picked up a few months ago.

Welcome to the group. Driving a Justa at speed is all about carrying momentum. There is very little hp and about 3 lb/ft of torque. Once you brake, your done. But they turn like stink and will keep up with higher hp cars very well. A number of us autoX and your more than welcome to join us. Also if your intrested in a little more vigorous exersize I can help you get it on a road race track. AutoX is fun but the big track is OH MY GOD fun.

Welcome to the group!  Oxygen blue rocks and is the best color on a MINI, but perhaps I'm a bit biased, having owned one...  Hehe.   038
