Hey Gang,
After some discussion, we're planning a trip up the eastern shore to Chincoteague Island for some Mr.Whippy Ice Cream http://www.misterwhippy.com/ We'll probably grab a quick bite to eat either on the way up or on the island then do some sight seeing on the island before heading over for some Ice Cream. Thinking maybe Ssturday August 8th, stay over til Sunday August 9.

As we determine meetup time and place we will post it here.
MEETUP PLACE:  Eastern Shore side of the tunnel. The first parking lot on the RIGHT. 3.4 miles +/- once you hit land on the shore side

MEETUP TIME: Lets meet up at 9 AM across the tunnel and and hit the road at 9:30!

Your Responsibilities:  Book your own hotel if your are staying over.  Keep Toll money available $24.00 total for overnight.  Same day return costs only $5.  Pack your sunscreen and bug spray (the island is surrounded by marsh-monster mosquitoes)

I'll try to look up costs for other items and post the costs I locate with the links below.

The trip will be an enjoyable drive over the Chesapeake Bay bridge (toll 12.00 each way - EZ PASS does work) up the Eastern Shore to Chincoteague.  Over the causeway to the secluded little island.  You are immediately placed in the center of town.  There are two main drags where you will find all the normal resort type entertainment.  The two main drags are Main Street and Maddox Blvd.  There will be numerous places for eating and playing.  We will line up a schedule of events, that you may take part in or not as you please.  For those who have never been.. this history of wild ponies is part of the lore.  Wild ponies can be seen in their natural habitat in the wildlife park (they hide in the trees pretty well though).  There are of course beaches, shopping, antiques, museums and all the normal beach fanfare.

I have listed a few nice bed and breakfast inns as well as hotels.  Prices seem to range from about 120-170 per night.  But be sure to ask for discounts like government, frequent traveler clubs, AAA, 50+, military etc.  For instance we got a $40 government discount at Quality Inn.  Look at the links for hotels in another post, one in particular does accept pets.  There are tons of places to stay so don't feel you are limited.  All are within about a mile of each other as I recall.  So meeting up will be no problem.  Here is the Chamber of Commerce site with listings of events, eateries and hotels  www.chincoteaguechamber.com

Schedule of events will include Refuge Golf & Bumper Boats http://www.refugegolfandbumperboats.com/ with mini golf, arcade, go-karts, bumper boats, rock wall and eateries.
Saturday is a Art Stroll Day with participating Island galleries and shops are open from 6-10pm with events including art and craft demonstrations, exhibits, readings , book signings, live music, wine tasting etc.  http://www.chincoteagueculturalalliance.org/home.html
A stop at the famous Mr Whippies ice cream http://www.misterwhippy.com/
Pony show 8pm Saturday night www.chincoteague.com/ponycentre  Get you photo taken with the ponies, poney rides,
Free trolly bus makes circles all day for transportation or we can try Scoot Coupes available for rent on the island
http://www.scootcoupe.com/
Of course there is great seafood restaurants and pizza.  Hard to fit it all in but we can try!

You can stay the night or just make a day trip of it. (Either day)

Let us know if you plan to attend:

I'll reserve the day as long as my FL family isn't here - doubt they'd want to go back north after driving south from Maine.  Have never been and would love to go.  038

Yes go-carts and Mini golf are open

I also looked up a few hotels/bed and breakfasts if anyone is interested.  All listed seem to have breakfast included of some sort.  Choice Hotels accepts pets for $15.00.        Dave and I are planning on staying at Choice on night of August 8th.

Anyone else planning on overnighting on the island? Hotels look to be about 170 a night, but I think it would be worth it. That way we could make Saturday a full day event and do dinner on the island as well. Then do some touristy stuff on Sunday before heading home. Sounds like a plan to me! Chincoteague is definitely unique.

Dale, I kinda confiscated your original post.     You can smack me  075   I like to think I improved it though!!  105

Dave saw the Little Scooter Coupes all over town last week.  They are two seater scooters to drive around town.  Looks like a total blast to me.  I'm gonna have to do that!  They are available at the bike rental place.

That's cool! More info is always helpful. I'm thinking we can meet up at the lot just over the CBBT on the right. Plenty of room there. That way, we don't have to worry about everyone getting through the toll booth together. We can just meet up there and head out.

Hey Dale

Your Tar Heel neighbor to the south of you here .. looking at this drive and thinking it looks like a keeper .. it's an area I've never been and have enjoyed the outings with the HR MINI club .. I'll post to Tar Heel forum and see if there are any others interested in caravanning up for the weekend .. will probably look at staying near-by the meeting place Friday night for Saturday AM .. will kinda need to know where the meeting place is   045

I see a limited number of "confirmeds" on your list -- anybody else? Specifically any solo female drivers who might be interested in splitting hotel costs? (Perhaps anyone who thought of going but hasn't committed that splitting costs is the make or break for?)

Thanks! Looking forward to it ..
