For my first event, I sure picked a good one. I had the BEST time last weekend. I don't think I've driven like that, ever. I'm going to try to come this evening but can't promise.

I do have a question, though. Last weekend, I did not have any kind of radio or walkie-talkie. Do I need one? There were a lot of times I thought I was lost until I saw the mini in front of me. OTOH, it did add to the thrill, not knowing where I was or how I was going to get back home!

There's a post on the Tar Heel thread regarding these radios that several members own and like at what is reportedly a great price:

Midland GXT720VP3 36 Channel 30-Mile GMRS w/ NOAA All Hazard/Weather Alert

Hope that helps!

I picked up these Motorola radios at CostCo a few months back:

They work pretty well, and come with all the accessories! :)

I split the Radio topic from the Cooper Vineyards so it could be best answered for Goldie

One thing that makes a good radio for our kinda use is a car charger option. Midland makes a couple that have that ability.

Be careful with Midland's though, many versions don't have the side bands and are confusing to figure out.  I like my motorolas that I got at Bass Pro.  they have rechargers and can use AA batts for emergencies
