I gave in....I Joey's modded my Mini's Headlights yesterday evening. It's really not that hard at all. I did not drip a drop of sweat. There are tutorials out there. Got my info from Northamericanmotoring forums.

Which products did you end up using?

Looks good.  Can't tell if the outer rings are painted or plastidipped?

The rings I did awhile back with about 5 layers of"Krylon Fusion" and 4 layers of clear. Still manage to easily get chips though. I need to get around to Vinyl wrapping them. But the chrome ring inside the headlight I used to the same Fusion spray paint. The paint dries and adheres pretty well to plastic. Really easy.

1. Remove headlights with 10mm deep socket.
2. Pre-heat oven between 180-200.
3. Remove headlight and blinker bulbs. (Use gloves, or just keep your fingers off the bulbs, finger oils damage bulbs)
4. Remove retainer clip(s)
5. Stick 1 headlight in at a time for about 1-2 minutes. (I placed mine on a cookie sheet to make it easy...)
6. Use a big tipped screwdriver (Or interior pry bar like me..) to pry the lens and unit apart. Until you can get some finger leverage and carefully pry apart.
Now if it seem to be giving you problems. Stick it back in oven for another 1-2 minutes to get the adhesive sticky again. And try again.
7. DO NOT REMOVE ADHESIVE. You will do the same procedure backwards to stick the headlight shell back together.
8. Now you are at your own free will to paint whatever color you want. To remove the chrome ring...you will need a torx screwdriver. Be careful.....the prongs holding it in are flimsy. Those with Xenon lights are able to paint the ring surrounding their light colors too...

After you are finished painting and everything is dry (even clean the inside of your lens if you want to...)....again just do the steps backwards. Screw everything in place. Stick the shell back together (for the most part) in the oven. Warm the adhesive up again. Remove the headlight(s) and squeeze the headlight back together until all snaps are locked and put your retainer clip back on. And walla put it back on your car.

Took me less than 2 hours to do both headlamps. (Krylon Fusion is a really quick drying paint found at Wal-Mart).

I like that. On some colors doing the body color looks good. But on red, black is the only way to go! 023
