For those of you who own classic Mini's or would like to learn more about them, you are invited to join us for the following classic Mini driving event.

The third annual Mid-Atlantic Mini’s Turkey Run will take place on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, November 28, 2009.

For this years event we'll again gather at Cooper Tune in Hampton for some early morning tire kicking over coffee and donuts. This year’s route will take us north on Rt17 over the Coleman Bridge and through sections of the Middle Peninsula, and Northern Neck of Virginia, traveling a variety of secondary roads as far north as the Potomac Beach area. Along the way we'll be crossing bridges over the York, Piankatank, and Rappahannock rivers. We'll plan to run out to as many of the fingers sticking out into the Chesapeake Bay as we'll have time for. In the morning we may visit New Point and Stingray Point, which will be followed by a brief visit to Innovative Restorations and Royall Restorations, both loctaed near Greys Point in Middlesex County. Owners Jamie Barnhart and Ted Royall both specialize in British car restorations, and usually have a handful of cars of interest in their shops in various stages of restoration. Following that stop, we'll hit Windmill Point and Reedville, between which we'll plan to stop for lunch, possibly along the banks of the Chesapeake Bay somewhere in Northumberland County. That will be topped off with a mid-afternoon ice cream break up around Port Royal, just as we turn south to head back. The afternoon run southeast on Rts.721 and 14 from Bowling Green to Ander will prove to be nicest part of the drive. Starting and ending in the Hampton/Newport News area, the run will be approximately 250 to 300 miles long, depending on how far off the main route we feel like venturing, and will encompass about six to seven hours of driving time, not including stops for food, gas, rest, etc. We’ll meet at Cooper Tune between 8 and 8:30am, with a planned departure time of around 9am.

As with all MAM driving events, participation is limited to classic Mini’s only. If you don't own a classic Mini or if you do but it's not currently roadworthy, feel free to meet us at the start, and simply ride along in someone else's classic Mini for the day.

Please get back to me here or via email at miniac7@aol.com with a yes or a no on this event, so we'll know how many to plan for.

Looking forward to seeing some of you on the 28th.

Howard Collins
Virginia Beach, VA.

This event is one month from today. I'm just bumping this to the top to see if there are any classic Mini owners lurking here who we may not already know about. If you're out there and are not on the MAM mailing list, let me know. It's all free.

Even if you don't own a classic (And I'm one that wishes he did!) this would be a good time to show up and check them out as they head out. Their run is only for classics, and I appreciate that. But maybe a send off by their new MINI brethren would be cool.

That would indeed be fun Dale. In fact, some of us Bi-Minual owners from MAM have recently been discussing leaving the new ones in the driveway and getting a handful of classics to join in on some of the HRMINI drives or events sometime, as a means of boosting classic invlovement within the group.

That would be great to have all types on our runs.  Everyone is welcome, even if you don't yet have your MINI.  There is huge interest in the classics for would-be classic owners as well.

Heck, until June, I participated in events in my "Actual Size" Nissan Titan until I could get my new MINI!  This club is awesome about being open to all, classic, new or imposter.  LOL

Sparke...since neither your name nor your email address are listed in your profile, I have no way of knowing whether or not you're already on our MAM email list. If you are not, and if you have a classic Mini, and if you would like to get involved with some of our activities, please email me. Thanks.

miniguy80 is part of our group and we hope to see him join us on the Turkey Run this year.

So do we have any NEW MINI's that would like to come out and give our classic Mini's an appropriate send off?

C'mon guys, let's show some appreciation for the model that started all of our loyalty. While they're out riding around, we can go grab breakfast somewhere. Trust me, when you get hanging around those classics, you'll fall in love with them too.

Let's get this going and send them off in style! 023

Yeah, what Dale said.

If you need a booster for your Classic Mini addiction, come on out and get up close and personal with the "Original Mini", the one that started this Mini/MINI car crazy thing. You will see a nice array of Classics in many variations, from original to modded out. I'm not sure you'll see any V-Tec examples, but who knows?

I know that once I had my first up close and personal experience with a Classic, there was no turning back. But don't let that scare you into not coming. I'm certain most normal people won't be as much a "nutter" as I am.

November 28th, mark your calendars................ 023

I'll try and be at the send off but won't be going on tour with you all.  Got to many things that need attention to go that far.  But I absolutely want to meet everyone else and see their Mini's!

Yeah, Cooper Tune it's at 223 Salters Creek Road, a blue industrial building backing up to the entrance road onto 664 N at Powhatan Pkwy.

No one is required to make the entire run with us, in fact, some have already let me know that. It's designed to allow folks to pick up or drop off as needed. As an example; you can make the run up to the Coleman Bridge with us, and as we go across you can simply turn around and come back down the Colonial Pkwy on your own if you wish, which would be a nice short run. If you plan to do something like that, please let me know ahead of time via email.
