Hampton Roads Club Mini

March 28, 2010 is the date for the 2nd annual Relay for Life Gimmick Rally. Last year we had 24 cars run in a day long downpour. They cars were out for just over 3 hours touring the peninsula looking for answers along the route. This years event will be longer and more fun.

All you need is a car, a driver and a navigator. Though our member Kurt ran the event solo and took second place! I've never seen that done in all my years of setting up rallies! A point penalty will be added for extra passengers.

The rally starts at Casey Collision on J Clyde Morris blvd in Newport News.

Entry fee will be be $25 and includes an event shirt (which again this year will feature a MINI and will be done by Craig at evergreen graphics!) Entry will be limited to 75 cars and we already have almost half of that registered.

If  you've never done a gimmick rally before, think of it as a scavenger hunt of sorts. You'll be given a set of directions. In between the directions are questions you'll have to answer. You'll find the answers on signs, buildings, trees, turtles, pretty much anywhere. (disclaimer: No turtles were harmed in the organizing of this rally) The more correct answers the better your chance of winning. If you get to the next direction and haven't found an answer to the last question, you need to go back and find it. The answers will be found between directions. The directions are pretty straight forward, the questions, however, are not. They can be a little, uh, well, tricky. The rally will be approximately 100 miles and should take between 3 and 4 hours. We want you to get your moneys worth!

I guess I better look forward to the schedule so I can decide if I can make it this year.  Last year was a blast.  This year I should probably get a co-pilot.  LOL  Maybe then I can take first!

It looks as if the rally might need to be pushed back due to some scheduling conflicts. I think the first car off was like 10:00 AM. I'll post up as soon as I get back in town. We have a meeting Sunday.

Rally is done, checked and printed. If ya ain't got any plans on the 28th, come on out and run our rally. It's about 4 hours and has a lot of questions as well as some nice scenery. Flier posted on first page.

I am not driving in the rally, have other plans for the day.  But I am making an important contribution.  I have 6 dozen Krispy Kreme donuts to share.  See you at registration.

OK, I think I'm going to join in the fun.  Now, I don't have a partner.  So I am going to volunteer to be a navigator.  I'll be up there around 9 a.m. myself.

Sorry that I missed the rally this morning. Just wasn't feeling up to it    Hoping that everyone had a great day ! It was a bit cool early this morning, but it turned into a really nice day. I hope that lots of money was raised for this terrific cause, and that everyone got plenty of donuts
