No e-mail to me.  Guessing you're on a thread of some kind to get the response.  Will read up on it when I get a chance.  If you have a URL, please post.

Newest FaceBook Post

5 rallies. 1 destination. Countless memories.

This summer, MINIs from around the country will rendezvous in Denver, Colorado (just east of the continental divide) for the fun-filled MINI TAKES THE STATES festival from August 13-15.

Beginning from five official starting points - New York, Atlanta, Chicago, San Francisco and Los Angeles - motoring enthusiasts will rally across the country alongside the all new MINI Countryman. It's sure to be an unforgettable experience filled with excitement, surprises and of course, MINIs.

Registration will open mid-May so check back at MINIUSA.com or FACEBOOK for updates related to the events. MTTS 2010 festival weekend is August 13-15 and the five official routes will start heating
up about a week before the event.

Get ready to get your rally on.

I've officially submitted my time-off request to attend!

08/05 through 08/16.

Not sure if I want to actually drive back, though...I *might* use Amtrak's Cartrain to save time & recuperate on the return trip to Hampton Roads.

I didn't know that the Amtrack car thingy stopped near here.  I used to take it from DC to FL.

I was curious enough to look it up.  There is only one route VA to FL or vice-versa

I checked the actual AMTRACK site and this fellow is correct.

I really think MINI screwed up on this. Less than 4 months and they're gonna wrap up over a week of your valuable time for this? They have the stop way to close together in my opinion, causing a ton of wasted days. I think Denver can be made in 3 good driving days, anyone else have more experience than me on this? But MINI has the route taking 9 days to travel from NY to Denver. We could pick it up in DC or maybe the following day in Pittsburgh. Even in Pittsburgh, you'll be driving for 7 days. If you wanted to drive all the way to Indy and meet up there, and I've driven to Indy in a day 4 different times, you're driving 5 days including getting to Indy. Then three days back. I think they scheduled it on far too short of notice and have way too many stop along the way. Hell, we drove from Wisconsin to Kissimmee in 6 days on the Hot Rod Power Tour. Anyway, here's the east coast route and stops:

Start
New York  to Philly 8/5  100 miles  2.0 hours
Philly to DC  8/6    150 miles 3 hours
DC to Pittsburgh 8/7    250 miles 5 hours (more like it)
Pittsburgh to Columbus  8/8  200 miles 3 hours
Columbus to Indy  8/9   360 miles    6 hours
Indy to St Louis, MO 8/10   250 miles 4 hours
St Louis, MO to Kansas City, MO  8/11  250 miles 4 hours
Kansas City, MO to Dodge City, MO 8/12  330 miles 5.5 hours
Dodge City, MO to Denver 8/13  360 miles  6 hours.

Just seems like a lot of wasted days in the beginning, but there will be way more congestion in the northeast for sure. If I were to go I'd meet up with them in Indy and maybe travel in with the group from there. Still, it's a looong way out to Denver!

Depending what I have going on in August, I may be willing to join them in DC and travel to Pitt, before turning back this way.

While we'll probably go, I agree with Dale in that there is a lot of time wasted along the route. What we'll probably do is drive into DC for the events there, then go back home. I figure, in 1 day I can get from my house to Indy. We'll stick with the official group until Kansas City. Then, while everyone is heading to Dodge City, we'll high-tail it to Denver. That should allow us to take in a little MITM action  002

Jim, I think you've hit upon the perfect plan! If you do that and I decide to go, I'll be glad to tag along behind ya. That sounds like exactly what I was planning. I'd be willing to bet you'd have a few more followers as well. 023

Dale, as soon as there's some more concrete details on recommended hotels (and discounts?) we'll make our plans a bit more concrete. For now, all I've done is register for MITM at Winter Park ($20 gets you into their event AND MTTS at Denver, plus a t-shirt).
