I have to make a run down to Disney this weekend, so that shoot my chance of Helenblitz all to crap.  Never mind all the Daytona 500 traffic. I can hardly wait.....

Who is heading down to Helenblitz?

Schultze SHOULD be home from the shop on Tuesday or Wednesday, but if he's not, it's a no-go for me.   088

Trying to get an idea of how many HRMers will be heading down and when.

I'd like to leave Thursday night; however, if there are others who are going but not leaving until Friday, that'll work, too!  It's more fun to travel in a group!   038

I'm still planning on going and I'm still going a day early.  I'm really looking forward to this, especially since we are supposed to get 4-8 inches of snow tonight here in Maryland.

I'm planning on taking 85 all the way to Ga. since we will pressed for time and arriving at night. The other route (85 to 40, then down through the National Forrest) looks like a better route to take on the way home Sunday when we can enjoy the scenery. If all goes well we should be getting onto I85 at Petersburg about 1:30 Friday afternoon.

Some of the movie Smokey and the Bandit was filmed in Helen. Here's a website that has then & now pics. I remember some of those buildings when we were down there.

OK, I know this thread is dead, but I gotta post an update on this topic (eh, sidebar).  First, here's a thread on Year One's redo of the Smokey and the Bandit Trans Am.  Speed channel's "American Truckers" just did a redo of the Smokey and the Bandit Beer Run.  Read up (or watch it when you can) to find out if they were able to do it in less than 28 hours!   112
