The short story is this.... I listened to a sales person, aka adviser, rather than doing what I knew was right.  Now I am left to suffer.  Oh well, I should have known better!  Anyone want to buy a 2008 Mini Cooper S with 20,000 miles and a brand new engine and turbo?  Mini/BMW sucks!!!!!

Here's the long story:

So sorry to hear about the troubles you experienced.

However, Pedlin DID tell you it was time for scheduled service:

Everytime you started the MINI, the digital readout that displays the clock & odometer will also display how many miles remain until the next service interval.

Did you not ever check the oil when filling the gas tank?

If yes, didn't you ever notice the change in consistency?

Surely you've owned other vehicles in the past; did you routinely go 20K+ miles between oil changes?

Which shop did the engine replacement?

How much are you asking for the MINI?

Discussion of the problems aside, please list the all the options of your MINI so that you'll have an easier time with the sale.

Good luck!

I'm so sorry to hear of your love lost for the MINI. 086  Just recently we had a few stories about others in our group who failed/overlooked/forgot to check oil, resulting in engine damage.   065 I always take these stories to heart and check my oil.  I do not want the same thing to happen to me.  I believe the car did not let you down, it was the overriding of your common sense, choosing to believe what you were told (not that I am not guilty of the same thing). 053  Perhaps give the car a second chance, roll the windows down and go for a drive.  After all you have a brand new engine and your MINI is dying to take you places.  Very best of luck in your decisions.

I read your story all the way thru and posted my comment on the site.

I work in the auto repair industry, over 30 years now. Your story is not unique. Lots of automobile owners neglect their cars every day for one of a thousand reasons. And it's always the dealer, or there mechanics fault when all hell breaks loose.

I could probably fill all the space this web site has to offer with the real life stories I've experienced. No one would like that, and I'd probably die trying.

Suffice it to say, you screwed up and now your going to pay for it. Selling the car at this point seems a bit extreme. I'd say keep it, practice better maintenance with a mechanic of your choice and enjoy the car. Afterall, it did nothing wrong and to kick it to the curb with a new engine and turbo just dosen't make any sense to me.

Just my .02 cents.

This is a cut-and-paste from another thread:

I did some research and found this:  Motoring Underground - 2007 S Engine FS.  Ad was posted on 2-21-2010.  Owner says one cylinder has low compression, but the engine appears to be OK overall.  Asking $800.

You can also try Car Part.com.  Search by year, make, model, and engine.  Preliminary search yielded prices around $3K for a complete engine.  Just a block search yielded no results.  There are other sites that help find parts online.  Used the words "used car parts" in the Google Advanced Search option (to include all words).  At each parts site you look at, after picking year/make/model/engine, there should be options to search by complete engine or block only, depending on your needs.  Short block will contain block, crank, connecting rods, and pistons.  Long block will include cylinder head and camshaft, and possibly fuel railing, but no accessories (e.g. alternator, AC compressor).

My brother's '87 van had a cracked throttle body housing a couple of years ago.  The part was made by Champion (who bought a large division of GM parts manufacturing a few years ago), but they have gone out of business.  I did a used search on one of these sites.  I received e-mails from various used parts stores saying they had one in stock.  Final price was only about $100.  Was well worth it.
