I'm getting hosed!!!!!! I was just told that the parts indicate that it has been slipping for awhile. I explained that it wasn't. According to them one side of the pad is shattered and the other is warn down and the flywheel is cracked and and heat scored. He went through the whole "well when people drive it hard" thing. I have never owned a vehicle with this much crap to go along with it. I asked him if since it was a loaner car then the wear could have happened before I owned it. I think I'm almost more #$@@%& off because they apparently think I'm an idiot. Checkered flag will NEVER get any of my money again after this.

I just spoke to Clay in Richmond and he said he has dealt with this before and that he doesn't understand the problem with it being covered. Yet another reason why I'll be dealing with crown mini from now on.

That was my next suggestion.  Make sure to get a 2nd dealer opinion.

I would hope that surely they would cut you some slack being that your car was a loaner before you purchased it. We all know how people tend to run the crap out of a loaner vehicle while their own car is in for service. The dealership knows this too. That's why they have cars such as that JCW Clubman S to hand out as loaners. They hope that you will love the loaner type so much,  that you'll be compelled to trade up, and they will make some more money from the deal.
You obviously have no idea how hard or poorly treated that clutch was prior to you purchasing the car ! Seems like a no brainer to me, that they should just honor the warrenty, period !  Best of luck with this issue and I REALLY hope CF will do the right thing and take care of this quickly and under warrenty.

While down in Florida on a business trip, a friend of mine once took his rented Mustang convertible to a local dragstrip on a Friday night. He ran the living daylights out of it, and had an absolute ball doing so. His BIG mistake however was leaving the results slip in the car when he returned it.

So I'm trying to have my mini put back together so I can take it elsewhere and they are determined to charge me $1650 to do that. I spoke to several mechanics that have told me that since the car was a service loaner and people beat the crap out of loaners that there is no possible way to tell how much damage that the clutch took before I bought it. CF has told me that it was the original clutch for the car. To be continued......

the final verdict is that it is my fault for poor driving. CF has "knocked off" some of the cost but it will still be $750.00 to fix or to release it to me to have someone else fix it. I spoke with John Hall the MINI general manager and he was very pleasant to deal with.

If there willing to split the cost, take it, then cut your losses. Next time you require service, take it to Crown. If the car is already apart, may as well let them finish and get it back ASAP.

Just my thoughts.

So...here's the big question...

Are you going to stay OEM or upgrade?

Research indicates there isn't much cost difference but product reliability improves DRAMATICALLY with non-OEM clutches.

Please keep us posted!

If you go aftermarket, refer to this NAM article, for which I replied with a post on what to get for upgrades:  NAM - Clutch Problems.

OK so now im scared...Mine makes that weird thumping sound when its not in gear...Goes away when its in gear tho...Also noticed the other day when I let my wife drive a clutch smell. Asked her about it and she said it smelled like that for the last 5 mins of her drive. She also tells me that she rode the clutch kinda. Smell went away and hasn't returned but still mkaes the thumping sound...Wouldnt really call it  thumping tho...more like a light knocking. Any ideas? Am i destined to replacing my clutch in the near future..Kinda worried...Also havent noticed any declin in performance. Still snapping.
