I got this email from the folks at Tar Heel. Why doesn't every MINI dealer treat their local club members like this?

Hello maacodale,

This is Jak Yaemsiri. I am the Tar Heel MINI Motoring Club's Treasurer.

Dennis Kaster, Flow MINI Raleigh - Sales Manager, talks to me today that he would like to poll our members in Raleigh and surrounding areas to see how many would be interested in getting together with Flow Raleigh team at the Oxford Pub in downtown Raleigh on Saturday evening April 17th. Dennis plan to provide heavy hors d'oeuvre at this gathering. Please reply if you are interested by March 31st. I will send you additional information once Dennis has finalized the plan.

Happy Motoring,

Jak

I can attest to Flow MINI's reputation.  The Tar Heel group has had quite a few satisfied customers, whether it be with a  new MINI sale or getting repairs covered.  In a couple of cases, the repairs have been covered out-of-warranty.

Sponsoring a Pub gathering is one more reason Flow MINI is catering to the MINI enthusiast!   023

Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't THMCC a 501(c)3 entity with officers and membership dues?

Negative. I spoke with Mark Vogler, THMMC's founder a while back and he said point blank, they are not, or ever plan to be a 501c3 or incorporate. They are just like us, a club. Very unofficial, except they do have officers. And no, I do not thinnk they have dues. I'm a member and have never paid a dime.

Now I am a member of DC Metro, they do have dues and are incorporated and a 501c3. But they do everything more complicated up there!

I've talked to folks from Checkered Flag before, and since we aren't a registered 501c3 they don't want to help us since they can't write it off as a donation to a non profit. However, somewhere along the line, donations and the like are often looked at as "dealer goodwill" and a cost of doing business. I do it all the time at Maaco. I consider it a form af advertising. It must work, my shop is busier than most in the area. Food for thought......

Thanks for the info, Dale.

If someone is registered to post on the THMCC website, does that automatically make them a THMCC member?

It is a shame that so many businesses refuse to do "community events" if the event organizer isn't a 501(c)3 entity.

Sure...reasons such as liability and an inability to get credit on a corporate tax return for doing "good deeds" might be given as "legitimate" reasons, but your shop (and other businesses in general) are proof that good things can be done via simple goodwill.

It's pathetic that so many businesses only have the $ in sight at all times.
