Okay, I really thought this was a joke. But Chrysler is going to build Fiats, which this article says is a "MINI competitor". Really? No, stop laughing. Really? Chrysler, of the K car fame. The PT Cruiser fame. The Neon fame. Is going to build a car for the states based on a Fiat. Of.....well Fiat fame? Anyone remember how well built and dependable the Fiats of days gone by were?

Italy should make two things, wine and food. And Chrysler should make.....well, I don't know what they should make, but it ain't cars!
This should be good, I can hardly wait until 2012. If there is even still a Chrysler left by then! Read on at this link:

I feel the real joke is $48 million to develop and build 140 electric/Hemi powered trucks... 119
I wish I could convince anybody to give me that kind of money to develop anything. Who do you have to know?

I have to say, I voted for this car. The omission of Chrysler, and the addition of Ferrari was the deciding factor. That coupled with the fact I think MINI is making too many radical changes too fast, to what could be a second Icon, might get there attention.

With that said, once the price tag is put out there, and a test drive is possible, who knows. This one could have some promise.

As I understand it Chrysler is only building the electric version of the 500.  Fiat bought Chrysler (merged I guess is more correct) but either way if their union can bring in some of the European hot hatches.. The Renault Megane  The Clio Sport would be a more direct competitor for the MINI, but regardless, any increase in the availability in fun small cars breeds competition and hopefully the consumers will benefit.  With but one MINI dealer south of Richmond, wouldn't it be nice to test drive a Fiat 500 Abarth  170hp and all, right down VB Blvd!!  Overall, I'm glad to see more cars coming to our shores and hopefully we will soon see what Europe has had for years, high MPG diesels!!  I once read that Europe has over 80 cars that get over 40 MPG and the US has 4.

I'm not sure what a Hemi and a Vega have in common. Other than just being American made. Sorry Dale, I wasn't too sure about your decision making before now. I'll be sending a check to the mentally impaired today, they cleary still need it 044 044 044

As for Europe having so many high mileage cars compared to the US, consider this one point. They've had to pay in excess of $5.00 for a gallon for some time now.  :103:That seems to be pretty good incentive to me. 115

I hear ya John...makes me wonder if there really is this gas conspiracy here in the US.... keep the people hooked on 25MPG and keep the cost at $3 or below..... and we can sell all the gas in the world to the Americans!!

Hey why are there men in black suits at my door?   102

When I went to England 1997, I think petrol was 1.20 Pound/litre.  That's about $6/gallon!   icon_eek

I also heard back then they had some cars with tiny 1.1L engines that would get 70 MPG!   103
