Since they dropped the Gran Prix at Indy, this Country could sure use an event like this. I'm happy to see it'll be so close to this area as well. I'd love to attend this, and spend all my money as well. NASCAR just never did it for me, and these cars are just incredible, it takes some serious driving skills to manuver around one another without touching at such speeds. Check out the final lap of this years Indy 500 if you want to see just how dangerous swapping paint can be in this style of racing. Sorry, I don't have a url to post for video. Maybe my computer friend at MACCO can find something on that for all to see. Got it now, check this out, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r4CCWoF-DCU

Hey ! Check out Formula 1 news !!! An F1 US Grand Prix is in the works again. I attended every F1 race that was held at Indy, including the one where there was not a "race" because of the tire issue. It looks like it is a done deal that F1 will return to the US in 2012 in Austin, Texas at a track that has yet to be built. WOO HOO !!! Indy car series racing is great when they do run a road course. I have been to see them run at Richmond several times. The Richmond event produced some REALLY FAST lap times, and a quick race, but it's still only a modified oval. I'd rather see them running on a road course anyday ! What type of track are they proposing for Baltimore ?? A city street course ? No thank you. I'm not interested.

Unless they have the room of an airport, like Cleveland used to do, I would imagine city streets would be the ticket. That type of course is great for the television audience, not so for the trackside spectator.

It's right downtown next to the Inner Harbor area with the pit and paddock near Oriole Park at Camden Yards...here's the proposed layout... ...and yeah it will be ripe with jersey barriers, debris fencing, and many other obstacles to your viewing pleasure. A friend of mine attended the press event representing a large new car consortium in Baltimore and he actually posed the question to the promoter about these obstacles that are relative to street racing...his reply, "it's for safety sake, sorry."

Like I said, the TV audience will get the best view.

I went to the Long Beach F-1 Grand Prix back in '79. You could only see the cars for about 5 seconds as they went around the corner. I've been to 3 F-1 races in Spain, Walkins Glen and L.B. and like Dave said the street course you can't see much.

Actually, the rooftop of the apartments next to the Orioles park and a pair of binoculars might not be too bad.

Screw that! Just start an Indy car team and drive your own car. THAT would be a good seat.

There's also the possibilty they might let you start the race from the rear seat of the two seater Indy car that was used by Micheael Andretti and Mark Wahlberg (the actor) in this years 500.
